3 4 8 CR ICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. A u g u s t 18, 1910. KENT v. WORCESTERSHIRE. Played at Dover on August 15 and 16. THE DOVER WEEK. Kent won by an innings and 19 runs. Winning the toss and batting first on a good wicket, Worcestershire gave a very disappointing display, losing three of their best wickets for 11 runs and being all out for 120 in two hours and a-half. Arnold stayed in for 100 minutes, and Burns helped him to put on 36 for the fourth wicket. Lowe hit a couple of 6’s, and Burrows made a useful score at the end of the innings. Thanks to Knott and Humphreys, Kent could claim a lead of 104at the end of the day with four wickets still to fall. In an hour and three-quarters they made 160 for the first wicket, Humphreys, who hit six 4’s, then being caught at mid-off. Knott, obtain ing his first hundred for Kent, scored 114 out of 193 in 130 minutes by faultless cricket: he hit a 5 and fifteen 4’s, and drove and placed to leg well. After his departure wickets fell rapidly, and when stumps were drawn six men were out for 224. On Tuesday the last four wickets added 86 runs, Kent thus claiming a lead of 190 on the innings. Hooman made some good hits, and Fielder helped him to add 33 for the last wicket. At luncheon Worcestershire had made 44 without loss, but with only 7 added Bowley was bowled. Arnold left at 58 and Pearson at 67, but Burns and Foster put on 25 and Cuffe played freely for 25. Of the others only Collier made double-figures, and Kent won by an innings and 19 runs. LEICESTERSHIRE. Played at Manchester on August 15,16 ifc 17. Lancashire won by three wickets. There was a thunderstorm during Sunday night, and, except just at the ^tart, the wicket always assisted the bowler on the Monday. Leicestershire, who won the toss, opened in very fair fashion, but Huddleston afterwards bowled with much success and in just over two hours the side were out for 121. For a time Lancashire fared almost as badly. Hartley, John Tyldesley, William Tyldesley and Sharp all being out for 61. Makepeace and Heap then helped to obtain an advantage for their side, putting on 53 for the fifth wicket in 50 minutes. The latter batted soundly for an hour at rather an anxious time. At the end of the day seven men were out for 163. On Tuesday Jayes took the last three wickets in an over for 5 runs, aud the home side’s lead was restricted to 47. Hornby’s innings was ended by a brilliant catch by Crawford, who took the ball low down with one hand whilst running iu from third man. Wood and Knight gave Leicestershire a good start in their second innings, causing several changes in the attack and making 77 in an hour and a-half ere the latter was caught at short-leg. With Whitehead in another 77 were added for the second wicket in 90 minutes, and at that point were 107 on with eight wickets in hand. Coe, however, failed, and at 170 Wood was bowled for a patient and valuable innings of 69 which lasted just under three hours and a-half. King and Crawford added 58 in 50 minutes, and, although the last few men did little, Lancashire were set 249 to win. Of that number they made 1 without loss before stumps were drawn. Yesterday a very level game was seen. Hartley, the first to leave, was out at 42, and Tyldesley (W.) at 46. Tylde.»ley (J. T.) and Sharp put on 40 together, and the latter and Makepeace 91 in 80 minutes. Sharp's innings was a most valuable one, made against some true and steady bowling: he batted 110minutes for his 58 and hit eight 4’s. Heap and Hornby continued the good work, and Lancashire won by three wickets. Score and analysis:— L e ic e s t e r s h ir e . First inning*. Second innings. C. J. B.
