HON. M. HERBERT. J. C. WHITE. At the present time Somerset cricket is undoubtedly at a very low ebb, but all followers of the game will be glad to hear that at a recent meeting of the County Club Committee it was resolved that every effort should be made to continue as a first-class county. At the same time it was decided to take steps to place the finances of the county on a more satisfactory footing, and the hope was expressed that it would be found within the sphere of practical politics to establish a nursery for young players—probably at Bath. Recognising that he will be unable to appear for Somers<t again this season, Mr. Daniell has resigned the captaincy of the side, and during the rest of the campaign the county will be led by Mr. P. R. Johnson.
