J u l y 2 8 , 1 9 1 0 . CR ICKET : A WEEKLY KLCORD OF THE GAME. 3 01 LANCASHIRE v. SUSSEX. Played at Liverpool on July 25, 26 and 27. Lancashire won by ten wickets. Sussex did well to score 186 on a dead wicket 011 Monday, especially as half the side were out for 83. Heygate and Relf (A. E.) added 54 for the third wicket in an hour and Chaplin and Vincett 45 for the ninth in 25 minutes. The last-named played a timely and vigorous innings, and made his 49 out of 62 in 40 minutes, his strokes including two 6’s and six 4’s. The Sussex innings lasted three hours and twenty minutes. At the close of the day Lancashire had half-an-hour’s batting, during which time Spooner and Hartley scored 23without being parted. There was such heavy rain during Monday night and the following morning that the game could not be continued until four o'clock 011 Tuesday. Lancashire then gained a distinct advantage, being 15 runs ahead with half their wickets in hand by the end of the day. Spooner and Hartley added 42 more runs before being parted, after which the latter added 33 with Tyldesley (J. T.) and 44 with Sharp. Hartleymade his 77 out of 142 in 130minutes without a mistake and hit seven 4’s. Sharp, more vigorous, scored 65 out of 98 in 70 minutes, and with Tyldesley (E.) put 011 54 in 35 minutes for the fourth wickct. He hit two 6’s and five 4’s. Yesterday, owing mainly to Makepeace and Heap, who added 44 in 40 minutes, the inuings was declared closed with nine wickets down for 267. In a minority of 81, Sussex opened their second innings with Vine and the younger Relf, who made 44 together for the first wicket in 35 minutes. The good start, however, was not maintained, for Dean and Heap-the former especially—bowled with such effect that the other nine wickets added only 56. The collapse was almost dramatic, for at lunch only one man was out for 74. The last five wickets fell for 13, and Vino carriedliis bat through the innings, which lasted just over two hours, for 19. Lancashire won by ten wickets. Score and analysis S u s s e x . First innings. Second innings. Vine, lbw, b Huddleston ... 11 notout............... 19 Relf (R.
