2 3 6 CRICKET A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. J une 30, 1910. CRICKET AT THE BRUSSELS EXHIBITION. {Continued from pat/e 221.) BELGIUM v. M.C C. Played on June 20 and 21 and won by M.C.C. by an innings and 209 runs. Although the scores show an overwhelming victory for the English side, there were moments in the match when the Belgians looked like making a good fight of it. In the first two hours of the match the M.C.C. had to fight for every run and by lunch had lost four wickets for 167. But after the interval the bowling of MacFar- lane and Lewis was not well supported, and dropped catches told their own tale. Taking full advantage of the small size of the ground—120 yards by 140— the batsmen scored at a tremendous pace, and More made 151 in about two hours; he hit fourteen 6’s and eleven 4’s. Gaussen, Beresford, Weigall and Fox also hit freely and the total was taken from ISO to 494 in two hours and ten minutes. Although losing their captain to the very first ball, the Bel gians made a very creditable start and at the end of the first day had lost only two wickets for 88, Maxwell and Kearney playing very attractive cricket. On the second morning Alpen and Mac- Farlane made a capital stand and took the total from 88 to 158 before being separated. Then came a collapse, Tod being almost unplayable ; at the cost of only 36 runs he took seven wickets, and per formed the hat-trick; he obtained his last five wickets in three overs for 5 runs. In the follow-on Belgium had only three wickets down for S5, but then followed a collapse, leaving M.C.C. successful as stated. Fox changed his bowling cleverly and kept wicket well. This was the best-contested match during the Festival, Holland, although without F. Rincker and E. Van Renterghem, extending their opponents to the very last. Hisgen, who has played with success in England, carried his bat through the rst innings for 85, made by stylish cricket, and Posthuma afterwards bowled so well that the Eng lishmen lost their first six wickets for 68. Hisgen sustained an injury and was unable to bowl, and finally the M.C.C. obtained a lead of 39. Schroder played very well in Holland’s second innings, and Posthuma hit out, and eventually the M.C.C. were left with 114 to win. De Groot and Posthuma were well supported in the field, and after the M.C.C. had lost their eighth wickct with the game a tie the win ning hit was obtained by Dalgleish by a lucky snick off which he was almost caught. Played on June 25th and won by Polland by 116 runs. Missed catches had much to do with the result of this match, for Schroder, after being let off before making a run, was missed four times later. Holland were the better team, but what luck there was certainly went their way. Score and analysis:— H o lla n d . J. C. Schroder, Eaton ........... W. Eigeman, Fowler ........... P. Played on June 26th and won by France by 63 runs. The French team was composed entirely of Englishmen resident in France, but Holland was, as usual, represented by an all-Dutch team. The latter were obviously tired after their exertion in the last two matches, and were outplayed in consequence. Kellerman, a brother of the well- known Australian lady swimmer, made the highest score in the match and also bowled slows well. Score and analysis: - F ran ce . E.
