J une 30, 1910. CRICKET A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 229 LEICESTERSHIRE v. NOTTINGHAM SHIRE. Played at Leicester on June 23, 24 and 25 kin g ’ s b en efit . Nottinghamshire won by 126 luns. As the result of some interesting cricket on Thursday, Notts scored 336 iu four hours and Leicestershire obtained 72 without loss in the last hour of the day. King, owing to an accident, was still unable to play. At one time it appeared probable that the visitors would make a larger score, for only five wickets were down when 300 went up. H itting brilliantly once he had got the pace of the ground, Hardstaff made 111 out of 207 by faultless cricket in 155 minutes, his chief strokes being thirteen 4’s. Jones batted well for 80 minutes, and Payton, though nr'tking only 30, helved on 90 for the fourth w»o*et. 'Vuefe was run during the nigh*-, on the second day tho home side were in consequence at a disadvantage when play was continued after a long wait. In two hours and a-half their ten wickets went down for 134, thus giving their opponents a lead of 130. Wood, sixth ■“ •t (at 151), batted two hours and a-quarter for 51 withouta mistake, and Crawford, hitting finely, made 45 of the last 55 runs in an hour and carried out his ba t: he hit eight 4’s On Saturday Notts forced the game in fine style, declaring at lunch-time and winning at half-past five by 120 runs. Jones left at 33 and at 51 both George Gunn and Iremonger were dismissed. Then, however, Hardstaff and Payton put the side ahead by adding 116 together without being parted. The home side were left with 298 to win and lost both Wood and Knight to Riley at 38. Jayes then went in and hit vigorously, completing 50 in 35 minutes: in all, he made 87 out of 112 in 55 minutes, scoring five 6’s and four 4’s. Clifton and Wass afterwards carried all before them, the last six wickets going down for 20. Score and analysis: — N otts . First innings. A. O.
