Cricket 1910

J une 16, 1910. CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 199 HAMPSHIRE v. SOMERSET. Played at Aldershot on June 9,10 and 11. Hampshire won by an innings and 36 runs. Rain on the opening day caused play to be re stricted to three hours and a-quarter, during which time Somerset completed their innings for 130 and Hampshire replied with 52 for the loss of Mead. Newman, owing to a strain, was unable to play, but Llewellyn and Kennedy, as it happened, did all that was necessary, dismissing their opponents in two hours and a-half. Apart from Robson and Hardy, who added 52 for the second wicket, and Braund, who defended strongly for nearly an hour, the Somerset men batted feebly, their last four wickets falling to Llewellyn in 23 balls for 7 runs. Heavy rain during the night and absence of wind on the next day prevented a ball being bowled on the Friday, but, despite the interruption, it 'was found possible to finish the game on the third day. Greig made 70 out of 118 in 95 minutes, but was badly missed when G3 by Morgan: he hit four 4’s. Seventeen runs later White was caught, but Johnston and Brown coming together put on 126 for the fourth wicket in 70 minutes without being parted. Johnston hit two 6’s and five 4’s, but should have been caught when 13. Somerset, left with 150 to make to avoid defeat by an innings, fared so badly that they were all out for 114, although Lewis and Hardy made 43 in partnership for the first wicket. Llewellyn took thirteen wickets in the match for 106 runs. Score and analysis:— S o m e r se t . First innings.
