OBITUARY. M r . T. S ankey . Mr. Thomas Sankey died at Blackpool Grammar School, Lancashire, on May 23rd, at the age of 53. He was born at Bilston, in Staffordshire, and whilst an assistant- master at Oxford County School, at Thame, averaged 24'5 in 1882, and 53‘5, 60, 51'10 and 62 -10 in the four following years, making several hundreds. Occasionally he appeared for Staffordshire, Shropshire, Oxfordshire, and Bucks and Berks, and in one season made four centuries in succession. He was the founder of the Blackpool Cricket Week in 1904. DUBLIN UNIVERSITY v. NOTTS. Played at Dublin on June 6, 7 and 8. Notts, won by seven wickets. Owing to heavy rain not a ball could be bowled on Monday before two o’clock, but the conditions were then so favourable to the bowlers that by the end of the day nineteen wickets had fallen for 174 runs. Wass took seven wickets for less than two runs each, and it was due to him and Payton and Allet son, who put on 55 for the county’s sixth wicket, that Notts were so favourably placed when stumps were drawn. On Tuesday Wass again did well, and the County won with seven wickets in hand. Play was continued after the winning hit had been made. Score and analysis :— D u b l in U n iv e r s it y . Oxford University won by 167 runs. On Monday twenty-one wickets fell for 258 runs, the University, when stumps were drawn, being 14 runs on with nine wickets in hand. The amount of progress made with the game was owing to the great majority of the players being unable to time the ball on the fast wicket. Tuff and Braddell, Association football Blues, who played instead of Salter and Lowe, greatly distinguished themselves. Oxford lost half their wickets for 37, and it was due chiefly to a stand of 34 by Pawson and Braddell that the total reached 110. The Gentlemen fared little better. Their first four wickets were down for 22, and although McGahey played a fine game for i»0 minutes, a lead of only 12 was obtained on the innings. At the end of the day Oxford, going in again, made 26 runs for the loss of Leese. Rain prevented play beginning on Tuesday until a quarter-past one, and then Twining, Pawson and Altham, left in quick succession. Le Couteur made 69 out of 82 in an hour, and was still not out at the end of the day, when the University, with two wickets in hand, were 213 runs on. Ihe last two wickets put on 49 yesterday, leaving the Gentlemen 268 to win. Le Couteur batted just over an hour and a-quarter for his flawless 88 and hit ten 4’s. The Gentlemen batted very feebly in their second innings, no one reaching 20. The innings calls for no detailed description. Score and analysis :— O x f o r d U n iv e r s it y .
