1 2 6 CR ICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. M ay 12, 1910. TH E AU STRAL IAN TEAM IN N EW ZE A LAN D . (Continued from Page 107.) 9 t h M a tc h — v . NEW ZEALAND. Played at Wellington on March‘26, 28 and 29. ( second test match .) Australia won by 162 runs. New Zealand won the toss and put Australia in, but it is doubtful if they obtained any advantage from the move. Smith played a vigorous and faultless innings of 102, scoring well all round the wicket and making his runs out of 165 obtaiued whilst in. Facy bowled capitally when New Zealand went in, and in a total of 177 took seven wicket for 71—a capital performance. The feature of the match, however, was supplied by Mayne aud Bardsley, who made 178 for the first wicket when Australia went in for the second time : they scored 100 in 55 minutes and made the result of the match almost assured. The home side never appeared likely to make the runs set them, especially as Whitty was able to bowl on a wicket affected by rain, and were beaten by 162 runs. Score and analysis :— A ustralia . Jefferys ... 0 14 i A. Jefferys, b Bob Jefferys ... 52 H O R T O N S v. J E F F E R Y S . Played on the Show Ground, Goulburn, March 24 and 25, 1910, and won by the Horton Family by eight wickets. The victors represented three families, the sons of James, John, and William Horton, who were cricketers in their younger days. In addition to the eleven, they provided an umpire and a scorer named Horton. In the Jefferys were two families of brothers (one numbering five and the other four), a cousin and a son of one of the brothers. All the members of the Jefferys team were born within a short distance of Goulburn. In 1892 the team won the cup for competition among country clubs of Goulburn, and has retained it since. In 1898 the Jefferys lost only one match out of 21 played. Score:— E leven H ortons . First innings. F. L. Horton, run out .. 24 J. R. Horton, c R ., b W.
