Although there was no visiting side in Australia during the past season, the cricket was full of interest throughout. The fine form of Clement Hill, the rise into fame of Kortlang, and the association of J. N. Craw ford with inter-State cricket were the chief features of the campaign. For the first time since 1893-4 South Australia carried otf the Sheffield Shield, and that they thoroughly merited the distinction was everywhere acknowledged. In addition to the home-and- home matches between the three leading States, New South Wales met Queensland twice and the rest of Australia and Tas mania once, whilst Victoria played Queens land at Brisbane, Tasmania at Melbourne, and West Australia twice at Perth and once at Fremantle.
