WESTERN PROVINCE v . EASTERN PROVINCE. Played at the Capetown ground on March 23 and 24 and won by Western Province by an innings and 12 runs. On the first day play was delayed until after lunch owing to the discovery that the matting laid down was not the correct length. In fifty minutes Eastern Province lost six wickets for 30 runs, but Lyons made 34 not out at a critical time and the total reached 128. Western Province gained a lead of 109 on the innings, thanks to Yeoman, which enabled them to win by an innings. Luyt took five wickets for 20 when Eastern Province went in the second time. BORDER. HAT-TEICK BY FAULKNER. Played on the Western Province Ground on March 23 and 24 and won by the Transvaal by an innings and 12 runs. The Border collapsed badly against Vogler and Faulkner, and were dismissed in seventy minutes for 43. Vogler took six wickets for 12 runs, &nd Faulkner did the hat-trick at the expense of Norton, Sprenger, and Brown. Zulch and Difford made 190 for Transvaal’s first wicket in one hundred and thirty-two minutes, the latter hitting ten 4’s and the former eleven. Zulch made his runs out of 245, and then retired on account of cramp. The seventh wicket fell at 108, but Marvin and Campbell put on 43, and the total reached 319. In Border’s second innings Snooke was seen at his best, and hit seven 4’s during the ninety minutes he was in, whilst Hartigan, a young player, played a sound game for a hundred minutes, and hit seven 4’s. The Border, however, just failed to save the innings defeat. Score and analysis :— B ord er . First innings. H. Phillips, c Campbell, b Vogler..................................12 A. EASTERN PROVINCE. Played on March 25 and 20 and won by the Border by eight wickets. Campbell’s innings of 34 was the only noteworthy feature of Eastern Province’s first innings, which closed for 80. Thanks to Nortoo, who followed his good bowling with an equally good innings, Border obtained a lead of 121 and, despite Eastern Province’s useful total of 101 when they went in the second time, won by eight wickets. Played on the Western Province ground on March 20th, 27tli, 29th and 30tli and won by the Western Province by 7 runs. The Western Province and Transvaal, having both beaten The Border and Eastern Province, met in the final. Western Province won the toss but gave a dis appointing display, being disposed of for 120 , of which number Commaille made 34 in two hours and a-quarter. The Transvaal lost Zulch at 2, but Faulkner and Vogler made useful scores, and when the innings closed the side had a lead of 44. The honours were again earned off by Commaille when Western Province batted again: he scored 05 in two hours by excellent cricket, hitting freely all round and making only one mistake. Jackson and Luyt added 53 in forty minutes and the last two wickets putting on 30, the Transvaal were set 189 to win. A fine struggle was seen by those fortunate enough to be present. The first wickets fell at 50, but three were down for 77 and five for 101. The sixth wicket put on 09 and, with four men to be dismissed, the Transvaal required only 19 to win. But the next three wickets fell for a single and Le Roux was bowled when only 7 runs were required. W testern P rov First innings. S. D. Snookc. b Vogler ... 13 M. Commaille, b Sinclair... 34 J. P.
