Cricket 1909
64 CR ICK E T : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. A pr il 15, 1909. In 1898-9 he made 92 v. New Zealand, and in 1899-1900 104 v. Tasmania; but he got no more chances in Sheffield Shield games. On the N.S.W. side Ferris and Charlton reappeared after long absences, but neither did much. There were nine double figure scores in Victoria’s first, including 53 not out by McMichael, 53 by Graham, 49 by Worrall, 45 by Giller, and 40 by Trumble. The total was 320. N.S.W. replied with 263, of which Mackenzie and Pye contributed 168 between them, the two adding 159 for the fifth wicket. The big man played the best innings of the match for his 88; Pye’s 80 included many good hits, but too many “ if” strokes on the off. Trott’s 92, made with a lot of luck and in two instalments, with Worrall to run for him after his break down, was just half Victoria’s second innings total, and the only other double figure scorers were Bruce (21), Murray, and Giller. No one reached 20 in the visitors’ second, the total of which exactly equalled Trott’s score. Roche’ s five for 51 was the best analysis of the match. Trott had four for 44 in N.S.W.’s first; and for the losers, McKibbin (8 for 187) and Pye (4 for 96) did best. (To be continued.) Most InnNot in an ings out. inns. Runs. Aver. J. E.
