Charles, H . Manley, and F. F. Kelly. CRICKET IN NEW ZEALAND. AUCKLAND v. OTAGO. Played at Auckland on December 28, 29 and 30. PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH. Drawn. The outstanding feature of the match was the batting of Wilson, who made 144 in Otago’s first innings in three hours and three-quarters; he drove well and offered 110 chance until after passing three figures. With Howden he scored 100 for the first wicket, and with Siedeberg added 82 for the third, lielf showed good all-round cricket for Auckland, but S. P. Jones, the old International player, failed to score. There were 110 extras in the match. Auckland were the holders of the Shield and, not being beaten, retained possession of it. Everything in the match was dwarfed by the batting of Wilson, who played a splendid innings of 188 ; he hit twenty-five 4’s, made his runs out of 279 obtained whilst in, and in partnership with Ayles scored 179 for the first wicket.
