Mr. Harry Boyton, at one time one of the best-known Metropolitan club-cricketers, died at Crouch End on the l l t l i inst. in his forty- ninth year. He was associated chiefly with the Clapton Club, whose averages he headed for several seasons. As a proof of his skill and consit>tency it may be stated that from 1890 to 1893 his figures for that club were 57, 58, 56 and 57. H is batting was of the highest order, and his driving a treat in itself. It was once written of him :— “ H is defence is strong, and his reach is long, and woe betide the bowler who is in the habit of pitching them up.” In June, 1887, be made 210 not out against Croydon, and in July, 1892, scored 277 in the match with Stoke Newington, the runs on each occasion being made for Clapton. Several times he played for Essex, and, without reproducing the form he showed in club matches, proved a useful member of the side. H is portrait was pub lished in C ricket of A p ril 19th, 1894. J oseph H a l l . Joseph H all, for more than fifty years a playing member of the Wetherby Cricket Club, died at Leeds on the 15th inst. in his seventy-seventh year. It was only two years ago that he retired from active participation in the game. SIR E. D. W ALKERS XI. v. J. BUCKNELL’S X L —This match, played at Darlington on Friday and Saturday last, proved such a success that it is likely a “ Darlington Festival” will be arranged in future years.
