Cricket 1909

302 CR ICK ET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. J u l y 29, 1909. L E IC E S T E R S H IR E v. E S S E X . Played at Leicester on July 26, 27 and 28. Drawn. For their total of 213 Essex owod much to Perrin, who was seen at his best in scoring 80 out of 170 in three hours without a mistake : he hit nine 4’s and put on 5G for the second wicket with Reeves (who was twice missed) and 51 for the sixth in 40 minutes with Russell (A. C ). Leicestershire replied with 67 for one wicket, Shields being bowled at 29. On Tuesday Knight was bowled at 83 and 6 runs later stumps were drawn for the day on account of rain. After a late start yesterday Leicestershire lost five wickets for 30, but Crawford and Astill made double figures and the total reached 157. Going in again, Essex also found difficulty in run-getting, the fourth wicket falling at 33. Perrin, however, played a sound game, and Russell (A. C.) and Freeman made useful scores. With six wickets down for 100 the innings was closed, but no definite result was arrived at. Score and analysis:— E ssex . First innings. Second innings. J. W. H. T.
