A crowd of 10,001 saw the home team score 411 for nine wickets on Monday, the attendance being the largest ever recorded at Southampton. Rowell and Mead gave the side a fine start by making 96 for the first wicket in an hour and a-half, and their good example was followed by Evans and Llewellyn, who added 83 for the fourth in an hour. Sprot made 8S in 27 minutes, hitting a 6 and seven 4 s. Llewellyn scored 101 in two hours without a mistake of any Kind, hitting freely and making nineteen 4’s in his attractive innings: he hit eleven 4’s in obtaining his first 50.
