Cricket at Sevenoaks probably dates back to the seventeenth century, but the first Sevenoaks matches of which mention can be found were played in 1731, when the London Club were twice opposed on Kennington Common---now the Park. The familiar quotation is made from an old writer who stated in 1750, being then seventy-five years of age, that “ Within these last ten years I could have shown you his [grandfather’s] name as one amongst a famous team pre served on a tablet over the chimney-piece of the Inn at Sevenoaks.” Much interesting matter concerning the days when great matches were played on the Vine ground is given as well as brief biographical notices of the Sevenoaks men who have been happy enough to render service to Kent cricket. For much of the information contained in the pamphlet acknowledgment has been made to the History of Kent Comity Cricket. The publication has been nicely printed and pro duced, and has been issued at the expense of the Sevenoaks C.C., which will receive any profits there may be. * Some Notes on Sevenoaks Cricket and the Vine Cricket Ground. With Eleven Men Longing to See you return to the Pavilion and each doing his best to send you there, it is just as well to equip yourself with the best bat made. With the “ M.C.C.” bat in your hand you stand a better chance of defeating the well-laid plans of Captain and bowler —a better chance because tbe “ M.C.C.” is a better bat, a better balanced bat, and a more powerful driver. T H E t t MCC 55 B A T Built mainly of specially selected Sarawak Cane, the handle is made on a new and entirely successful principle. The utmost driving power Is obtained with a total absence of stinging, and it is absolutely im possible for this handle to become “ sprung.” The blades are carefully selected from the choicest close bark English Willow, well seasoned and hand-hammered throughout.
