Played at Brisbane on November 28 and 30. Drawn. The total of 828 and the two double-centuries in the innings constitute records for Queensland. Hartigan and Hayes made 136 for the first wicket, tlirce-figures being reached thirty-eight minutes from the start. The former, who at one time made 51 out of 56 in ten minutes, deliberately threw away his wicket when he had reached 200 in one hundred and forty minutes : lie gave several chances whilst flogging the bowling, the first when 116. Hutelieon, who gave no chance whilst making his large score and hit four 6 ’s and thirty-six 4’s, made 50 in forty- four minutes, 150 in eighty-two, 200 in one hundred and thirty-six, and, in all, scored 259 out of 426 made whilst in in one hundred and sixty-nine minutes without losing his wicket. He hit 26 runs (4, 6 , 4, 4, 4, 4) off an over delivered by Edwards. The scoring was so fast on the second day that fhe sixth hundred was made in forty-six minutes and the sixth and seventh in thirty-seven. The total reached 600 in four hours and a-half from the start and the large aggregate took only five hours and fifty minutes to make, the last 328 runs being obtained in one hundred and twenty-six minutes. 136 287 331 345 402 402 422 583 698 828 R ichm ond R iv e r . Goddard played bright cricket for 87 and, when the last wicket fell, 427 had been made in just over five hours. Queensland gave an improved display when they went in the second time, but for their total of 311 they were largely indebted to an eighth-wicket stand of 101 by Hutclieon and Crouch, who came together when sevi-n men were out for 174. New South Wales won by seven wickets. There had been rain prior to the commencement of this match and when Queensland won the toss they went in first on a slow wicket. Hayes was out with only 2 scored, but llartigan, who played a faultless game for 37, and Simpson added 59 for the second wicket. (July four other players reached double figures and it was due largely to a last-wickct stand of 28 that the total reached 166. It was a disappointing display, notwithstanding the con ditions of the wicket. The visitors had 110 difficulty in obtaining a long lead. Bubb and White made 51 for the first wicket and the latter and Nichols 109 for the fifth. White batted four hours and a-quarter for 147, showing strong defence and cutting J. S. Winning the toss meant winning the match, for after New South Wales had batted for two days on a perfect wicket the weather broke up and the home side were helpless. Off the first ball of the match Hofikins whs missed by Pellew at slip off O’Connor, and the mistake proved very expensive. Hopkins and Bardsley scored freely despite many bowling changes, and it was not until 131 that the first wicket fell. Hopkins and Noble then came together and, although nine different bowlers were brought against them, were still unseparated at the end of the day when the score was 410 for one wicket (Hopkins 218, Noble 124). With 4 added on the second morning Hopkins was caught at slip, the second wicket having added 283 in one hundred and seventy minutes. Apart from the chance at the commencement of his innings, Hopkins made no mistake : lie made his 218 out of 414 in two hundred and seventy-eight minutes. With the Rev.
