Cricket 1908

A p r il 23, 1908. CRICKET A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. &7 ball is near, where it would not be safe for the one at that wicket to start; but you had better lose a run than risk a wicket. “ RUNNING BETWEEN THE WICKETS. “ Run with the bat on the outside of your partner, taking care not to run against him, for in so doing you may lose a run, and probably a wicket. If one Striker be left-handed and the other right, they should agree on which side they will pass each other in running. “ TO CATCH OR STOP THE BALL. “ It is necessary in catching a ball, to step well to it, and receive it into the hand with ease, rather yielding to the force, and keeping the eye steadily fixed on it ; and at the moment of catching the fingers must be extended to receive the ball, and shut the instant it is caught. It is like wise necessary in stopping a ball to get before it so as to meet it full, and if it is coming with a bound, wait, or step in, as the case may require ; if close to the ground, and fast, care must be taken to putting down the hands with sufficient quickness. “ THE FIELDSMEN. “ BOWLER. “ A Bowler will soon discover where the Striker means to hit the Ball, and he will after delivering it, endeavour to place himself in a situation to stop i t ; but if it should be hit away, he must return to his wicket to take the Ball if thrown to him. If a Batsman goes out of his ground, with an intent to run before the Ball is de livered, the Bowler may put him out. (To be continued.) MINOK COUNTY AVERAGES. (Continuedfrompage 48.) BEDFORDSHIRE.
