NOTEWORTHY EVENTS OF 1907. (Continued from page 35). Derbyshire v. Warwickshire, at Derby, May 30, 31, and June 1.—Owing to rain, this match was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Of nine successive days on which they were supposed to play, Derby­ shire were idle on seven on ac.ount of the weather. Middlesex v. Essex, at Lord's, June 3, 4, and 5.—In the first innings of Essex Russell (E.) battf d half-an-hour ere making a run. Cambridge University v. South Africans, at Cambridge, June 3, 4 and 5.—The first six overs of the match, bowled by G. G. Napier and A. F. Morcom, were maidens. M. W. I'ayne (13) and J. N. Buchanan (24) made 34 for the third Cambridge wicket in ten minutes, obtaining 18 (414414) off an over from A. E. Vogler. Warwickshire v. Northamptonshire, at Edgbaston, June 3, 4 and 5 —In the second innings of the former Charlesworth (0.) nude 52 out of 82 in 70 minutes, and in the first innings Thompson (G. J.) at one time bowlei three overs for five wickets and a rua, the la t five Warwickshire wickets falling in five overs for 4 runs. Yorkshire v. Kent, at Leeds, June 3, 4 and 5.—In the first innings of Yorkshire Wilson (B. B.) batted thirty-two minutes and was then bowled without a run. The last five Yorkshire wickets fell for 9 runs. Somerset v. Lancashire, at Bath, June 3, 4 and 5 .— In the first innings of Somerset F. M. Lee scored 71 out of 83 in eighty minutes. The four totals in this match were very similar, Lancashire making 189 and 182 for two wickets and Somerset 183 and 186. Leicestershire v. Surrey, at Leicester, June 3, 4 and 5.—In the second innirigs of Surrey a total of only 138 was made although Hay­ ward, T. (46) and Hobbs, J. B. ( 66 ) scored 110 together for the first wicket. Essex v. Notts., at Leyton, June 6 and 7. —Ten men were lbw. in the match—five on each side—although many appeals were dis­ allowed. Surrey v. Sussex, at the Oval, June 6 and 7.—In the first innings of Sussex, although Vine was absent (hurt), six men were dis­ missed without a run; curiously, not one made spectacles. Hampshire v. Kent, at Southampton, June 6 , 7 and 8 ,—Hants., set 306 to win, made that number for five wickets. In the first innings of Kent Woolley (F. E.) scored 62 out of 86 in 55 minutes. Worcestershire v. Lancashire, at Worcester, June 6 , 7 and 8 .—Set 170 to win, Worcester­ shire made the runs without loss, Bowley (F. L.) scoring 95 not out and H. K. Foster 73 not out. The highest of the three pre­ vious innings was 138, and Worcestershire were 51 behind on the first innings. Somerset v. Worcestershire, at Bath, June 10 and 11.—Whittle (A. E.) bowled Bowley (F. L.) with the first ball he ever delivered for Somerset. Leicestershire v. Kent, at Leicester, June 10 and 11 .—In the first innings of the home side C. J. B. Wood batted 25 minutes before making a run Middlesex v. South Africans, at Lord’s, June 10, 11 and 12.—In the first innings of the latter, L. J. Tancred (49) was in twenty- five minutes ere scoring, and in the second innings, although the highest score from the bat was only 68 , 404 runs were made for the loss of nine wickets. Warwickshire v. Lancashire, at Edgbaston, June 10 , 11 and 12 .—The Warwickshire County C.C. Committee left out Hargreave, owing to an act of insubordinttion the previous week. At one time during the Lancashire innings Tyldesley, J. T. (209) and Sharp, J. (174 not out) added 103 in forty-five minutes: in all, they put on 220 in 105. Perthshire v. Sussex, at Derby, June 10, 11 and 12 .— In the first innings of Derbyshire Humphries (J ) batted 115 minutes for 15 not out, at one period being in 50 minutes without scoring. In the second innings of Sussex K. O. Goldie made 73 ont of 88 in eightv-five minutes. Gloucestershire v. Northamptonshire, at Gloucester, June 10, 11 and 12.—In the first innings ( 12 ) of Northants., the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh wickets all fell at 11, and the last three at 12. At one time during the inningsDennett (G.) took eight wickets for 3 runs; his final analysis was eight for 9. During the day he took fifteen for 21 . Hampshire v. South Africans, at South­ ampton, June 13, 14 and 15.— Llewellyn (C. B.) fcored 61 out of 92 in a hundred minutes for Hants. Surrey v. Cambridge University, at the Oval, June 17, 18 and 19.—In the first innings of the University M. W . Payne claimed 92 of the 121 made for the first wicket with ii. A. Young in fifty minutes. He reached 52 out of 65 in twenty-five minute^, obtained five 4’s off an over from Hitch (J. W.), and hit only five singles. He secured 31 off two overs—17 (four 4’s and a single) off Lees (VV. S.) and 14 (three 4’s and a 2) off Rushby (T.)—and when the 100 went up at the end of forty minutes claimed 86 of the number. In the first innings of Surrey Hitch hit a ball from H. J. Goodwin out of the ground, it being lost, and in the second of Cambridge R. A. Young at one period hatted half-an-hour without scoring. Yorkshire v. Sussex, at Sheffield, June 17 , 18 and 19.—In the second innings of Sussex, during the partnership of Cox (G.) and Keif (R. R.), a shower fell and the ball was rendered so greasy that a towel was occas­ ionally used to dry it. Middlesex v. Surrey, at Lord’s, June 20 , 21 and 22.—In the first innings of Middlesex l\ F. Warner was howled by a ball from N. A. Knox which broke the centre stump, and Tarrant at one period took forty-five minutes to score two singles. In the first innings of Surrey J. N. Crawford made 86 out of 115 in an hour and a-half, reaching 50 out of 69 in sixty-five minutes. Lancashire v. Sussex, at Liverpool, June 20 , 21 , and 22 .—In the second innings of Sussex (29) the, 5th, 6 th, 7th, 8 th, and 9th wickets all fell at 27 . Kent v. Hampshire, at Tonbridge, June 20, 21, and 22.—Woolley (F. E.) made 60 out of 86 in fifty-five minutes for Kent, com­ pleting Lis 50 out of 66 in thirty-five minutes. Kent scored 596 in three hundred and ninety minutes. On the second day 567 runs were scored for twelve wickets, Kent making 508 for seven, and Hants. 59 for five. Kent (273 and 101 ) v. South Africans (95 and 281), at Catford, June 24, 25, and 26.— The South Africans, after following-on 178 behind, won by 2 runs. (To he continued.)
