302 CRICKET A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. J u ly 23, 1908 K E N T v . W O R C E S T E R S H IR E . Played at C atford on July 20 and 21. Kent w on by an innings and 36 runs. On a soft wioket which favoured the attack 17 wickets fell on Monday for 236 runs in four hours and three-quarters. Worcestershire were without H. K . Foster, while Mason and Fielder (resting) were absent from the Kent side. Worcestershire lost Pearson at 4 and Bowley at 36, whilst with only 4 added Burns, who had made some good drives, was out to a fine catch at mid-off. Foster and Cuffe then came to gether and, with only three wickets down for 71, Woolley went on for Fairserivce. The change proved most successful, Woolley bowling Cuffe and Arnold with consecutive balls in his first over, and the last seven wickets going down for 32 in 40 minutes. Foster played very good, though, not faultless, cricket for 46—he was missed when 32—and made a big square-leg hit for 6 out of the ground off Fairservice. During the innings Blythe obtained his 100th wicket of the season. Against the bowling of Arnold and Cuffe, Kent lost Marsham at 13 and Hard inge six later. Seymour and Dillon added 39 in 45 minutes, but Hutchings made only 5 and was fourth out, at 73. About this time Arnold became lame and was obliged to retire from the game, his services being lost for the rest of the day. Woolley and Seymour added 44 in 35 minutes, the latter then being bowled for an admirable innings of 55, made out of 104 in 110 m inutes; he hit five 4’s, and was once missed—at cover-point when 33. Woolley and Hubble were soon bowled, and at the end of the day seven wickets were down for 133. The next morning Humphreys played a good game, and was well supported by Huish and Blythe, who helped him to add 28 for the eighth wicket and 53 for the last respectively. He batted two hours for his not-out innings of 56. Worcestershire, 111 in arrears, collapsed in their second innings against Blythe and Woolley and were well beaten. They lost Bowley to the third ball delivered and Pearson and Burns at 16. Foster and Cuffe added 32, the former mak ing some capital hits in his 29. The fifth wicket fell at 48, and, with no one else reaching double figures, the innings closed for 75. Blythe bowled adm irably, and was well supported by Woolley. It will be noticed that there were no extras in either innings of Worcestershire. Score and analysis :— W o rce ste r sh ir e . First innings. Second innings.
