Hampshire won by an innings and 36 runs. Owing" largely to m issed catches, Ham pshire scored 4(53 on the first day, play ceasing when the last w icket fell. Bow ell, w ho was fifth out, scored 1(50 out of 382 in 260 m inutes, h ittin g tw enty-five 4’s, the great m ajority of them drives, but he was very fortunate, being m issed b y Bohlen at m id-off w hen 14, b y Lester at point w hen 63, and by Cregar off a hot return when S3. W ith Llew ellyn he added 80 in an hour, w ith W h ite 144 in an hour and a-half, and w ith H ill, w ho gave no chance and hit a 6 and ten 4’s, 111 in 50 m inutes. Llew ellyn should have been caught w hen 37 and W hite was missed three tim es. Play w as not possible on the second day until tw enty m inutes to one. W hite was caught at square- leg in the first over, and w ith 27 scored play was stopped for a short tim e b y rain. Lester was caught at the w icket at 40, and, after Bohleu was bow led w ithout a run, King and M orris stayed together until 86 , w hen the form er, w ho had m ade 52 in an hour and had h it seven 4’s, was caught at m id-off. W ood m ade a dozen, and w ith his departure half the side were out for 132. Morris m ade his 74 in 80 m inutes w ithout a chance and hit thirteen 4’s, but Graves was m issed three tim es— tw ice before reaching double figures. The latter hit a 6 and thirteen 4’s during the 70 m inutes he was in and in partnership w ith Sayen put on'58 for the ninth w icket in half-an-hour. In the follow -on K ing and W hite added 26 without being parted after Graves had been bowled at 38. On the third m orning a series of disasters occurred, the fifth w icket falling at 86 .
