W ith the total unchanged Buchanan was bow led by a fine ball w hich broke in a lot from the off. W ith Ireland and Baily together the scoring slow ed dow n, but at 143 R obinson w ent on for G ilbert and bow led Bailey in his first over. A t 150 Ireland w as caught at the w icket b y Pawson, w ho took a fast ball w ide to the off in splendid fashion. M acleod, caught at tue w icket, was eighth out at 151, after w hich Goodw in and O livier pu t on 44 for the ninth w icket in 20 m im ites at a tim e w hen runs were m uch required. O xford w ere left w ith 183 to w in. A deplorable start w as m ade, Bruce being caught at slip w ith only a single— a w id e—scored. A t 7 Teesdale fell to an adm irable catch by Baily, w ho fairly took the ball off the bat and w as on his knees w hen the catch was m ade. Fifteen runs later B ow ring was bowled, aud at 34 Foster also was sent back, four w ickets then being dow n for 37. H urst, fortunately, again did w ell and helped his captain to pull the gam e round. The bow ling was frequently changed, but it was not until the partnership had realised 48 that W right was w ell caught by his nam esake running from cover-point. The O xford captain batted 80 m inutes for his very valuable 37. Robinson started un ­ steadily, but m anaged to stay, he and H urst being together w hen the hundred was reached in 05 m inutes. A t 118, however, w hen the sixth w icket had put on 33, H urst was w ell caught at cover- point b y Young for an excellent 46 m ade out of 81 in 65 m in u tes; he hit seven 4’s. Yesterday H atfeild was out first ball, and w hen 22 had been m ade rain stopped play. M yers and H aigh did little, but in the last hour o f the day R othery and H aw ke put on 54 w ithout further loss. On Tuesday when the gam e w as resum ed B lythe w as unable to field, ow in g to w ater-on-the-knee, his place being taken by F airservice. L ord H aw ke w as at once m issed b y H uish off W oolley, and the m istake proved a rather serious one. The ninth w icket added 90 and then R othery w as caught at the w ioket. The player nam ed batted 230 m inutes for 161, _ his record score fo r the county, hit tw enty-six 4’s and m ade only tw o m istakes— when 81 and 93. The last w icket added 34 and the in nings closed for 401. M arsham and H ardinge opened the K ent in nings, and, although they m ade 64 together, fou r w ickcts w ere dow n for 92. W oolley and M ason added 88 for the fifth w icket, but at the end of the day K ent, w ith only tw o w ickets in hand, were still 177 runs behind. On W ednesday the innings closed for 242, but Y orkshire did not call upon the side to follow -oa.
