Notts, at Lord’s, May 1, 2 and 3.—In the first innings of the former the last seven wickets fell for 20 runs. Surrey v. Gentlemen of England, at the Oval, May 2 and 3.—In the first innings of the latter V. F. S. Crawford off-drove a ball from Smith (W.C.) out of the ground. In the same innings the last eight wickets fell for 11 runs. In the second innings of the Gentlemen the umpires, being doubtful whether Smith (W. C.), when delivering the ball, got beyond the angle formed by the meet­ ing of the bowling crease and the return crease, had the latter extended about eight yards. Gentlemen of Ireland v. Yorkshire, at Bray, May 2, 3 and 4.—In the Yorkshire innings Ehodes, W. (10), when 8 , received from T. C. Ross a ball which hit the wicket without dislodging a bail. Kent v. Northants, at Catford, May 13 and 14.—Thorneycroft (C.), making his debut for Northants, dismissed A. P. Day with the first ball he delivered. M.C.C. and Ground v. Derbyshire, at Lord’s, May 13, 14 and 15.—In the fir&t innings of the home side Major H. M. Barnes batted an hour for 3*, at one period batting forty-five minutes without making a run. Gloucestershire v. Yorkshire, at Bristol, May 13, 14 and 15.—In the first innings of Yorkshire, Rhodes, W . (12), when 1 , was caught low down at point by Spry (E.) off Dennett (G.). Rhodes appealed, and, as neither umpire could see the catch, the bat«man continued his innings. Cambridge University v. Lancashire, at Cambridge, May 13, 14 and 15.—Playing for the former, M. W. Payne (129) scored his first 50 out of 74 in sixty-five minutes. Kent v. Somerset, at Tonbridge, May 16 and 17.—In the first innings of the latter Mr. L. C. H. Palairet (116) reach(d 50 out of 71 in fifty minutes. At the end of the game, Hardinge, II. T. W. (58 not out) and K. L. Hutchings (38 not out) added 70 for the third wicket without being separated in twenty-five minutes, the last 27 being made in five minutes. Surrey v. Derbyshire, at the Oval, May 16, 17 and 18.—In the first innings of the latter N. A. Knox, in bowling Cadman (S.), broke a stump. In the second innings of Surrey Hayes, E. G. ( 86 ) and Hobbs, J. B. (79 not out) at one time added 45 in fifteen minute?. Leicestershire v. South Africans, at Leices­ ter, May 20, 21 and 22.—Three men were run out in the first innings of the latter and three in the second innings of the County. In the second innings of the South Africans A. D. Nourse scored 41 out of 53 in forty minutes, at one period (whilst in with P. W. Sherwell) making 37 off the reel. Essex v. Gloucestershire, at Leyton, May 20 , 21 and 22 .—In the second innings of Gloucestershire the 5th, 6 th, 7th, and 8 th wickets all fell at the s^me total. Notts v. Surrey, at Nottingham, May 20, 21 and 22.—In the second innings of Notts Iremonger (J.) scored 130 out of 189 in two- hundred and twenty-five minute 3 . In the second innings of Surrey, Marshal (A.) made 96 out of 143 added for the third wicket with Holland (F. C.) in ninety minutes, and J. H. Gordon, after batting half-an-hour, was dis­ missed without scoring. Middlesex v. Somerset, at Lord’s, May 20. 21 and 22 .—In his own benefit, in the second innings of Somerset, Trott (A. E.) took foui wickets in four bills and, later, three in three: he only just missed obtaining five in five. At the commencement of the match Tarrant (F. A.) was in half-an-hour before making a run, and in the second innings of Somerset Braund (L. C.) also batt-d thirty minufrs without scoring. Middlesex v. Gloucestershire, at Lord’s, May 23 and 24.—In the first innings of the visitors G. L. Jessop scored 41 out of 42 in thirty minutes, and in the second 30 out of 37 in similar time ; in all, therefore, he made 71 out of 79 in an hour against Trott and Tarrant. Oxford Univer ity v. Worcestershire, at Oxford, May 23, 24 and 2-5.—In the second innings of the County R. S. Swalwell (40) and N. W . Jolly added 30 for the last wicket although the latter made only 1 not out. Essex v. South Africans, at Leyton, May 23, 24 and 25.—J. H. Sinclair scored 51 out of 72 in fifty minutes for the latter. Sussex v. Hants, at Chichester, May 23, 24 and 25.—This match was played on a wicket which had been protected from the rain. For Sussex Killick made 67 out of 92 in eighty minutes, and in the second innings of Hants E. M. Sprofc scored 84 out of 121' in one hundred and five minutes. Lancashire v. Kent, at Manchester, May 23, 24 and 25....In the first innirgs of Lanca­ shire Fielder (A.) bowled Tyldesley (J. T.) with a bill which sent a bail sixty jards. Yorkshire v. Derbyshire, at Sheffield, May 23, 24 and 25.—Rain caused tiiis match to be abandoned without a ball being bowled.- M.C:C. and Ground v. South Africans, at Lord’s, May 27, 28 and 29.—At one time in the second innings of the former A. E. Vogler took seven wickets for 12 runs. Yorkshire v. Hampshire, at Bradford, May 27, 28 and 29.—In the first innings of Hants, Llewellyn (C. B.) scored 98 out of 140 in one hundred and thirty-five minutes. Derbyshire v. Kent, at Chesterfield, May 27, 28 and 29.—This match lasted only four hours and fifty minutes, Kent winning by an innings and 100 runs. Lancashire v. Essex, at Manchester, May 27, 28 and 29.—In the second innings of the former Tyldesley (J. T.) made 116 out of 173 in one hundred and sixty minutes : with Cook, L. (15) he added 108 for the eighth wicket, of which his own share was 86 . Northamptonshire v. Kent, at Northamp­ ton, May 30, 31, and June 1 .—In the first innings of the home side (60) the first seven wickets fell for -four runs, of which 2 were extras, Blythe (C.) taking them all for a single, his analysis being 6 overs, 5 maidens, 1 run, 7 wickets. On the third day Blythe took seventeen wackets for 48 runs, bowling down only two of them. M.C.C. and Ground v. Leicestershire, at Lord’s, May 30, 31, and June 1.—In the first innings of the County, Astill (W . E.) was run out in an unusul manner, a ball returned by the other batsman, Coe (S.), glancing off the hand of the bowler, Overton (W .), on to the wicket whilst he (Astill) was backing up. Oxford University v. South Africans, at Oxford, May 30, 31, and June 1.—For the latter A. D. Nourse scored 54 out of 81 in seventy minutes : he reached 50 out of 65 in 55 minutes. (To be continued .)
