Tarrant would be prepared to come to Hobart during January and February next for the purpose of coaching our players. It is understood that Tarrant required a sum of £60. Some senior players have been heard to suggest making a “ tarpaulin muster ” — the Association to pay half, and the other half to he raised by subscription. unlikely, the counties decide to penalize drawn games, this would seem to be a method that might meet such a policy. GEANVILLE (LEE) CRICKET CLUB.— SEASON 1907. RESULTS OF MATCHES. First XT.—Played, 28 ; won, 15 ; lost, 6 , drawn, 7. I n the pimphlet containing the Tas manian Cricket Association’s report for the season 1906-7, Mr. P . F icey gives a list of the bow ling performances of C. J. Eady and E . A. Windsor in North v. South matches from 1887 to 1907. The fast bowler, playing for the South, has taken 250 wickets at an average cost of 14 43, whilst Windsor’s record is 244 wickets at 17-84. A f i n e uphill game was played on the Islam Gymkhana ground at Poona on December 19th and 20th in the match between a Malay Eleven from Ceylon and the Islam Gymkhana. T h o s e Australian critics who have been advocating the inclusion of S. E. Gregory in the New South Wales Eleven have had their opinion thoroughly justi fied. Playing for the State against Victoria at Sydney, Gregory made 201 on Tuesday last, and in partnership with Noble (176) put on 315 for the fourth wicket, which exceeds the 293 added for that particular wicket by Duff and Noble against South Australia on the same ground just four years ago. New South Wales this week scored 461 in reply to a total of 402, of which Armstrong made 110 . A s pointed out in the November issue of Cricket, the schemes that have been suggested for penalizing drawn games in the County Championship Competition all miss their object in the same paiticular, viz., they make a draw valuable to sides who stand at a “■m inus” and in a lesser degree to thoss who stand at a “ cypher.” B y taking Mr. Jessop’s scheme and modifying it to the extent of deducting half a point for a draw every county would suffer a slight penalty by drawing a match, but only those who draw an abnormal proportion of games would suffer materially.
