M ay 21, 1908. CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. WARWICKSHIRE v. SUSSEX. Played at Edgbaston on May 14, 15, and 16. Drawn. Play was out of the question on each of the first two days, and consequently Saturday’s cricket created but little interest, a draw always being assured. The home side started so slowly that at the end of an hour the total was only 30 for three wickets. The sixth wicket fell at 51. after which Lilley, who was missed when 8 by Smith in the U n? field, and Glover put on 67 for the seventh wicket in 55 minutes. It was due mainly to this pair that the total reached 152. Hargreave quickly got three Sussex wickets down, but Killick played a good game, making; SO in 65 minutes, and Vincett, of Hastings, made some fine hits. The total reached 131, and. before play ceawd, Warwickshire, going in the second time, made 18 for the loss of Charlea- worth’s wicket. Score and analysis :— W a r w ic k s h ib r . Maritzburg collapsed badly against L. D. Dalton and Nourse, and were dismissed in an hour and a half for 58, only Conway, who hit three 4’s, reaching double figures. Nourse played a great game for Durban. He went in at 7, with three wickets down, and of the 78 runs (including extras) subsequently added, claimed as many as 64. Near the close of the innings he nursed the bowling so cleverly that he was responsible for the whole of the 35 runs added for the ninth wicket with Howden. He hit nine 4’s, but was missed at the wicket by Sturgess when 3 : he was the only player to confidently face the “ googlies ” of Samuelson, which accounted for six of the first seven wickets for 10 runs. Anderson and Bisset added 94 for Maritzburg’s second wicket, the former giving two chances in making 64. Durban were set 151 to win in an hour, and, after two wickets had fallen for 12, Nourse and Morley put on 73 without being separated. The match was drawn. Score and analysis M a b itzb u b g .
