But as all his cricket in Australia as yet has been played for New South Wales, he may fittingly be allowed to fall into the concluding insialmtnt of these notes, in which his old State, and also Queensland and Tasmania, will be dealt with. THE KENT ELEVEN OF 1906. M e have received an artist’s proof on India paper of the picture of “ The Kent E'even of 1906 in the Field at Canterbury.” The picture has been painted by Mr. Cheval- lier Tayler, R.B. A., and is at present hung in the Pavilion on the Canterbury ground; later it is proposed to exhibit it at various places in the County. Several excellent representations of Kent cricket and cricketers have been issued during the past six decades, and it may at once be stated that not one of them has been presented in a more attractive style than the one just published. Like the greatest of its prede cessors—Mason’ s well-known Kent v. Sussex engraving—Mr. Chevallier Tayler’s picture is not strictly accurate from an historical point of view, for Mr. Findlay, who did not play at Canterbury in 1906 owing to a damaged hand, is shown batting in p irtner- ship with Tyldesley. The explanation is that A. C. MacLaren, who was to have appeared, went to India, and Mr. Findlay was asked by the Kent Committee to feit instead. There is a breath of quietude and orderliness in the picture which recalls the words of a writer who once said that Kent cricket is played in pleasant places ; its surroundings are hop gardens and waving trees and low, green hills, and that the proper spirit of the game must come down with the cool breezes that are blown across the open country. All those who love Kent cricket and admire the men who won the Championship for the County last year will be grateful for the opportunity which is now presented to them of obtaining a charming souvenir at a reasonable figure. Copies can be obtained at the following priceB:—Artist’s proof on Japanese vellum, £5 ; artist’s proofs on India paper, £2 2s.— both with remarque portrait of Lord Harris ; and plain prints, 10<. 6d. The vellum proofs will be reduced to £4 10s. if forty are sold, and to £4 if fifty are sold. Vellum proofs will be limited to fifty, and India proofs to 300. Orders should be sent to Mr. A. J. Lancaster, Secretary of the Kent County C.C., 46, St. George’s Place, Canterbury. AiNSYVEliS IO C O K R E sP O N D E N IV B rucb E. G ordon (King William’s Town).—(a) In the second innings he was caught by Snooke at short-leg off a skyer, the batsmen crossing over whilst the ball was in the air. Frequently no importance whatever can be attached to a batsman being caught off a no-ball. (6) The ball, after leaving Board’s bat, passed through the hands of the bowler, Mordaunt. A tele graphic mistake probably, (c) Denton was run out by Hathorn from mid-on. “ B u rn h am .” —The statement in “ Gossip” was correct. For Kent v. Gloucestershire, at Graves end in 1895, Alec Hearue scored 155 (c Board, b Kitcat) and not out 22. T. F o r s te r .— The matches played by the English team against Western Australia rank first-class. CRICKET IN ANTIGUA. CHALLENGE CUP COMPETITION. ANTIGUA v.
