DERBYSH IRE . Played at Edgbaston on Augustl9, 20, and 21. Warwickshire won by six wickets. The cricket on the opening day was slow, Warwick shire responding to the visitors’ total of *135 by making 93 for the loss of a couple of wickets. Derbyshire lost their first four wickets for 15, and it was only Humphries who saved the side from a complete collapse. Going in at a critical point, he batted admirably without making a mistake of any kind, and was last man out for 50, made in two hours and forty mihutes. In the innings of 135, Santall took six wickets for 53. At the end of the day, Warwickshire lost Fishwick and Charlesworth for 93, Baker carrying out his bat for 47. On Tues day—the game could not be resumed until 2’30—the player named and Quaife both scored well, but Baker was missed when 12 and 54. Quaife hit eight 4 s during the three hours he was in, and did not give a chance. At the end of the innings, Morton took four wickets for 21 runs, but Warwickshire could claim a lead of 135 on the innings. Derby shire, when they went in the second time, made 54 for the loss of Sherwin’s wicket, Wright carrying out his bat for 37. Yesterday morning Wright and Humphries, not without some luck, remained in until their stand for the second wicket had 'realised 138. The amatuer showed some of his old. form in making his hundred, but was missed by Fishwick at short-leg when 41. Of the other players, Carlin showed the best form, but when the innings closed for 249, Warwickshire were left only 115 to win, and that number they obtained for the loss of four wickets.
