Rain, which delayed the start until a quarter past twelve, caused the wicket to favour the attack to such an extent that during the first day twenty-two wickets went down for 313 runs. After losing Humphreys at 6 , Dillon at 27, and Hutchings at 42, Day and Seymour added 42 in forty minutes before the last-named was sent back for a faultless innings of 35, which lasted an hour and a-quarter and con tained five 4’s. Day batted seventy minutes for his 38, and at one time it appeared likely that a useful score would be made, but after lunch the last six wickets fell for 40 runs in thirty-five minutes, the last three going down with the total unchanged. Dennett took seven wickets for 75 runs, at one period obtaining four for 10. The home side lost Bnard with only a single scored, but Langdon and Brownlee improved matters considerably by putting on 43 for the second wicket in seventeen minutes. Jessop hit 33 out of 40 in thirteen minutes aud was fourth out at 88 . The last five wickets added but 22, Blythe securing his last four victims at a cost of only two runs. Possessed of a lead of 24, Kent further added to their advantage by making 67 for the loss of Dillon and Seymour by the time stumps were drawn. On the Tuesday Kent at once experienced a series of disasters. With the overnight total unchanged Humphreys was again out lbw, and with but three added both Day and Mason were sent back. Hutchings made a few fine hits, but left at 91, and, although Marsham, Huish, and Fielder all made double figures, the innings closed for 133. Dennett again bowled admirably, and made his record for the match fourteen wickets for 146. Gloucestershire were left 158 to win, and the result was almost assured by Langdon and Board, who made 58 for the first wicket, and by the latter and Brownlee, who added S2 for the second. Brownlee played good cricket during the fifty minutes he was in, and hit seven 4’s. With the game a tie, Board, who had made four 4’s, was caught and bowled for a very praiseworthy innings of 65. Gloucestershire won by seven wickets. Score and analysis:— K ent . First innings. E. W.
