Cricket 1907
308 CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. A ug . 1, 1907. parallel, but perhaps gome reader of this column can do so. Hampshire’s success over Middlesex at Southampton yesterday was as popular as it was unexpected. The visitors, after their great fight with Nottinghamshire the previous week, appeared likely to experience little difficulty, if any, in winning at Southampton, hut the uncertainty which is so great a charm of the game asserted itself and once again Bhewed how dangerous a practice it is to endeavour to forecast results. That Hamp shire are a greatly improved team must be apparent to all. Early in the season they caused something of a sensation by heating Kent, and as recently as the latter part of last week played a splendid game against Surrey. The side has had many difficulties to contend with of late years, and their fine form must prove very welcome to those who have been working in the County’s interests. Many of their best players are still com paratively young men, so there would seem to be no reason why the side should not continue to be successful for some time to come. The wish is certainly the father of tbe thought. THE MINOR COUNTIES. (To July 28th). NORTH DIVISION. 0 | ^ 5 & J 4 M PM Lancashire (2nd) 8 . Durham ..........7 .
