The School won by an innings and 220 runs. A. H. Du Boulay, of the Kent Eleven of 1899, scored 402 not out in two hundred and twenty-five minutes, hitting six 6’s, a 5, fifty-three 4’s, seventeen 3’s, and twenty-two 2’s. He also took eight wickets for 72 runs. The previous record for the ground was Col. H. W. Renny-Tailyour’s 331 not out for Royal Engineers v. Civil Service, in May, 1880. The Colonel made his runs out of 498 obtained whilst in in just over three hundred and thirty minutes, hitting an 8, a 7, two 6’s, four 5’s, twenty-one 4’s, thirteen 3’s, and twenty-five 2’s ; on the first day he scored 266 not out in two hundred and seventy minutes, making only one mistake—a difficult chance to mid-on when 199.
