The following is the report of the com mittee :— The marked improvement in the all round play of the Surrey Eleven was one of the outstanding features of county cricket in 1906. Lord Dalmeny captained the team with admirable skill and judgment, and the eleven proved themselves well worthy of comparison with some of the best sides that have re presented the county in the past, the fielding especially showing a marked improvement. In the First Class Championship competi tion of twenty-eight matches, fourteen were won, and only six lost. Of the thirty-three matches in all played fifteen were won, one resulted in a tie, ten were drawn, and seven lost. The home match with Lancashire at the Oval had unfortunately to be abandoned without a ball being bowled. The thanks of the club are due to Lord Dalmeny, Messrs. Raphael, Crawford and Knox for their loyal and hearty support, and also to the other members of the team. The accounts, it will be seen, show a profit of £1,208 14s. 9d. Many of the most im portant county matches were interfered with by bad weather, and the match receipts generally suffered in consequence. During the year 168 new members were elected. 3,035 Members have paid their subscriptions for 1906. Home and home matches will be played in the County Championship with Essex, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Sussex, Notts, Warwickshire, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Middlesex, Derbyshire, Worcestershire, Yorkshire, Kent and Northamptonshire. Home and home matches will also be played with Cambridge University, one match with Oxford University, and one with the West Indian Team at the Oval. The Gentlemen will oppose the Players at the Oval on July 16, 17 and 18. The charge for admission to this match will be Sixpence. The match between the Champion County and England will take place at the Oval on September 10, 11, 12 and 13, the proceeds being again equally divided between the Cricketer’s Fund and the London Playing Fields Society. The committee have the greatest satis faction in stating that Lord Dalmeny has again undertaken the captaincy, and that Mr. J. E. Raphael has agreed to accept the vice-captaincy. The decision of the committee of the M.C.C. upon the question which had arisen with Somerset respecting the engagement of Montgomery was in favour of Surrey, the M.C.C. committee deciding that “ inopening negotiations with Montgomery before making any communication to the committee of the Surrey C.C.C., a breach of Rule VII. (Rules of County Cricket) was committed by the Somersetshire 0.0.0.” Mr. Wildman Cattley has resigned the office of treasurer, which he has held for the last 25 years. The committee desire to place on record their hearty appreciation of his valuable services to the club. The following members of the committee retire by rotation, and being eligible, offer themselves for re-election :—Lord Dalmeny, M.P., G. Everett, Esq., K. J. Key, Esq., M. W. Marshall, Esq., Rev. E. W. Northey, J. B. Oakley, Esq., C. A. Stein, Esq., A. S. Tabor, Esq. The Annual General Meeting will be held in the Pavilion, on Thursday, May 3, at 5 p.m. d. 8 0 .7 MATCH EXPENSES. «£ s.
