Cricket 1906
O ct. 25, 1906. CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 445 N.S.W. CRICKET ASSOCIATION. The New SouthWales Cricket Associa tion ha9 adopted new rules. Amongst them is the following:— “ Any cricket association within the State of New South Wales may, with the approval of the executive committee, become affiliated with the Association. Affiliation shall entitle members of such association to selection in all matches controlled by the Association.” Does this mean that no player unless a member of an affiliated body is entitled to consideration by the selectors ? Surely not! The work of the Association for the future will be carried out by a committee of twelve, which will meet monthly. The Association will be convened quar terly. Formerly the committee consisted of five, and the Association met monthly and sometimes more frequently. Last season the tourmadeby Trumper’s team through Brisbane took away from the final match of the season a good deal of interest. This has brought about the adoption of the following new rule :— “ No club, member of a club, or asso ciation represented on or affiliated to the Association shall arrange or take part in any matches with any teams or clubs from outside the State of New South Wales, or shall arrange or take part in anymatch outside the Stateof NewSouth Wales, without first obtaining the con sent of the executive committee, provided that where any match is to take place outside New South Wales the executive committee shall not grant such consent unless the governing body of cricket of the State or colony where such match is to take place sanctions the same.” The rule gives the Association great power. Still, cricketers may rely upon such power not being used harshly.— Sydney Mail. ALDENHAM SCHOOL AVERAGES. BATTING AVERAGES. No. Times Most of not Total in an Inns. out. runs. inns. Aver. J. W. Edited, as heretofore, by Mr. J. Wynfred Gibbons, it contains, in addition tomuchmatter dealing with purely local clubs, a full recordof the games played at Trinidad for the Inter-Colonial Challenge Cup. Mr. P. A. Goodman, who was a member of the West Indian Team which visitedus this year, had a good seasonduring 1905-6 with the Pickwick Club, for which his batting average was 45"16andhisbowling (49 wickets) 5-83, whilst Mr. R. Challenor, of the Wanderers, averaged 31'58 for seventeen completed innings, In the match between Barbados and Demerara, in January, an extraordinary event occurred forsoimportant anoccasion :— “ ..................Lieutenant White went at the same total, in S. Snow’s fifth over, which was a remark able one. It contained two wides, one no-ball and a run out. Then Shepherd (umpire) lost count, and let Snow go on bowling till he had actually sent down ten balls (counting the wides and no-balls), and yet gave him another, making eleven deliveries. And it was this eleventh ball that retired the lieutenant! ” Which reminds us that Walter Mead was once allowed to senddown a ten-ball over at Scarborough. ♦“ The Barbados Cricketers’ Annual,” 1905-’06.
