B y “ F .F .” The In cogn iti, which dates back to 1861, has n ow been on the g o for fo rty - five years, and in unother five w ill attain its Jubilee. I t can ju stly lay claim to bein g one o f the m ost famous o f wandering clubs, fo r it has done m uch to popularise the gam e in nearly all the counties of E ngland, as w ell as in S cotland, Ireland and W ales. The club has ju st finished a m ost successful and pleasant season. Sporting finishes were w ell to the fore, w in or lose rather than draw bein g the order o f the day. The H on orary Secretary, M ajor C. E. Greenw ay, had provided a m ost excel­ lent card for the season, comprising matches w ith clubs, colleges and schools, comm encing at C am bridge in M ay, and term inating at P ortsm outh in the latter part o f August— a very fine list of fixtures, m ostly tw o-day m atchfs. D uring this tim e the In cogs, journeyed into all the H om e counties, also in to Derbyshire, Rutland, Staffordshire, Hampshire, D o r­ setshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset and D evonshire. The P ublic Schools, U p p in g ­ ham , H aileybury, E apton, Sherbourne, Cheltenham , W estm inster and Charter­ house, and the M ilitary centres, A ider- shot and W oolw ich , were also visited, as w ell as the tw o M ilitary Schools (W o o l­ w ich and Sandhurst). Visits were also made to B aron de W orm s at E gham , to M r. J . Colman at Gatten Park, and to M r. W . H . P alm er at W okenham . The weather was on its best behaviour, Jupiter Pluvius not gettin g m uch of an innings this season, and the Incogs, show ed their appreciation b y com ­ p ilin g some very fine scores, there bein g n o less than nine centuries scored fo r the old club, and fo rty -eig h t innings of betw een fifty and a hundred. The M arried and Single m atch was played as last year (captained b y C. M . Tuke and Sir W illiam Russell) at M r. Tuke’ s house at Chisw ick. The President o f the C lub, Sir Augustus H emm ing, G .C .M .G ., was present. T he tours were under the management o f M r. G . E . W inter, Cam bridge Tour (T rinity, K in g ’ s and Clare and Jesus C o lle g e s); and o f M ajor Green w ay, the M idland T our (R epton , Lichfield and U ppin gh am ), the Schools T our (Sher- boum e, Bath and Cheltenham ), part of the W estern Tour, and also the Southern T our (Southam pton and P ortsm outh). In all, forty-th ree m atches were played. The club came out w ell, havin g i8 wins against 14 losses, 11 bein g drawn. The principal scorers during the season were : G. E .
