Jessop made 74 out of 96 in 85 minutes, making 28 rongles. In the second innings Langdon, T. (47 not out) made his last 44 out of 49. Derbyshire v. Nottinghamshire, at Derby, August 21st, 22nd and 23rd.—On the last day, wnen Notts, with ten wickets in hand, had to get 38 to win, not a single spectator paid for admission. Notts lost four men in their task. Essex v. Yorkshire, at Leyton, August 24th, 25th and 26th.—For Essex, Reeves (VV.) ma'ie 71 out of 90 in 50 minutes, reaching 50 in 30 minutes. In the first innings of York­ shire, Denton, D. (40) used four different bats in compiling his first 22 runs. On the 1 m st day Yorkshire, 408 behind with nine wickets in hand, played a very stubborn game, batting six hours for 212 runs for six wickets. Hirst (G. H.) was in 290 minutes for 90 (reaching 50 in 140 minutes), and I’unnicliffe (./.;, 212 for 59 (reaching 50 in 180 minutes). E. Smith batted an hour and carried out his bat without a run. Kent v. Australians, at Canterbury, August 24th, 25th and 26th.—In the first innings of Kent, S. H. Day (5) batted 30 minutes ere making a run. Surrey v. Northamptonshire, at the Oval, August 28th, 29th and30th.—ForSurrey, Hol­ land (F. C.) made 63 out of 88 in 60 minutes. Unly 298 runs were made in this finished match for 30 wickets. Lancashirev. Leicestershire, at Manchester, August 28th, 29th and 30th.—On the second day only two overs were delivered—by Ker- mode (A.) andHuddleston (J.)—andnine runs made (all by Knight, A. E.). Owing to rain, Knight and Whitehead, H. (16) batted on each of the three days. Lancashire v. An England XI., at Black­ pool, August 31st, September 1st, 2nd.—In the first innings of Lancashire, A. C. Mac- Laren made 93 out of 140 in 90 minutes, reaching 50 out of 74 in 45 minutes. When time arrived Lancashire (253 and 168 for seven wickets) required one run, with three wickets to fall, to beat their opponents (193 and 228 for six wickets, innings closed). Cook (W.) was caught in trying to make the winning hit. [On the same day two other close finishes were witnessed, Surrey and Kent playing a tie, at the Oval, and the Australians beating an England XI., at Bournemouth, by one wicket.] Sussex v. Essex, at Brighton, August 31st, September 1st and 2nd. - In the first innings of Essex, Reeves (W.) made 62 out of 71 in 55 minutes. An England XI. v. Australians, at Bourne­ mouth, August 31st, September 1stand 2nd.— In the first innings of the Australians A. Cotter made 44 out of 62 in 30 minutes, and in the second 37 out of 42 in 20 minutes; in all, 81 out of 104 in 50 minutes. In the second innings of an England XI. Llewellyn (C. B.) made 50 out of 72 in 40 minutes. The Australians won by one wicket, aleg-bye giving them the game, and each batsman carrying out his bat without a run. Surrey v. Leicestershire, at the Oval, September 4th, 5th and 6th.—The Surrey score went from 300 to 400 in 45 minutes, J. N. Crawford (142*) and Lord Dalmeny (138), who, in all, added 260 in 130 minutes for the sixth wicket, being in. J. N. Craw­ ford and Lees, W. S. (17*) afterwards added 42* in 12 minutes for the seventh wicket. Essex v. Australians, at Leyton, September 4th, 5th and 6 h. Essex wanted 215 to win when Buckenham (C. P.) went in, last man, and successfully withstood the bowling for the remaining 25 minutes. North v. South, at Scarborough, Septem­ ber 4th, 5th and 6th.—B. J. T. Bosanquet made 70 out of 101 in 68 minutes for the South. Gentleman of South v. Players of South, at Bournemouth, ‘-eptember 4th, 5th and 6th. —R. E. Hemingway assisted the Gentle­ men of the ''outh. On August 31st, Septem­ ber 1st and 2nd he had played for North v. South, at B ackpool. Gentlemen of South v. Plavers of South, at Hastings, September 7th, 8th and 9th.— Alan Marshal, playing for the latter, had, earlier in the season, appeared for the Gentle­ men of England. South of England v. Australians, at Hast­ ings, September 11th, 12th and 13th.—In the first innings of the South of England the last six wickets fell for 13 runs against C. E. McLeod and M. A. Noble ; six wickets fell in four overs for three runs. On the last after­ noon the game was stopped for about ten minutes whilst a Salvation Army procession, with band playing the “ Dead March,” passed the ground.
