Victor Trumper’ s X I. left Brisbane by steamer yesterday (April 21st) for the far north of Queensland, and commence a five week’s tour at Charters Towers on Saturday next (28th). They work their way down south towards Brisbane and meet Queensland here about May 25th. Most of the matches in the north will be played on concrete wickets with matting over them. No N .S .W . team —representative or otherwise—has previously gone beyond Brisbane. Charters Towers is about 800 miles away, and it is another 700 miles from Sydney to Brisbane. I leave by steamer on Tuesday next (24th) and join Trumper’s party at Charters Towers on Friday night. North Sydney—in other words a N .S .W . X I.—played Woolloongabba here at Easter, and beat them by 394 runs. Not a single newspaper gave the score absolutely correct, but I will obtain it from the book and let you have it next mail, for it is worthy of inclusion in Cricket. Yesterday (21st) for Woolloongabba v. Nundah, at the Brisbane Cricket Ground, R. Hartigan (206*) and W . J. Lewis (122*) put on 339 for the first wicket, without being separated, in about two hours. It is a first- wicket record for Queensland, the previous best being 293 (unfinished) by M. M. F. Dunn and J. C. Mikkelsen at Bundaberg in 1904. Probably you have recorded in “ Gossip” that the Governor of Queensland, Lord Chelmsford (Hon. F. J. N. Thesiger) received a sunstroke whilst playing in a match at Toowoomba during March. His Excellency has been laid up for some considerable time, but is able to take a trip to Tasmania this month. W e are hoping that he will appear for Queensland next season. AFRICAN BANKS v.
