( seventh of th e to u r .) Played at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, on Feb. 6, 7 and 8. Lord Brackley’s team won by an innings and 17 runs. Although Captain Wynyard, C. H M. Ebden and G. H. Simpson-Hayward all played very fine cricket for the visitors, the great innings of the match was the 83 by H. B. G. Austin, whose runs were made when his team was in an almost hopeless position. Thompson had a fine analysis in each innings of the West Indies, although he received very little help from the wicket. L ord B rackley ’ s T eam . Lord Brackley. b Hoad 3 A. F. THE RETURN MATCH AGAINST BARBADOS. ( eighth of th e tou r .) Played at Kensington Oval on Feb. 8, 9, and 10. Barbados won by ten wickets. The Barbados team is to be greatly con gratulated on the result of this match, not withstanding that the victory was largely due to the weather. At the end of the second day the Englishmen, with a balance of 75 against them, had five minutes batting without losing a wicket. Rain in the night made the wicket exceedingly difficult, and as Shepherd and Layne both bowled exceed ingly well the visitors were only twenty runs on when their last wicket fell. In the course of the first innings of Barbados, Hinds ran up the pitch to Simpson-Hayward’s lobs as soon as the bowler began his run. Simpson-Hayward threw at the wicket instead of bowling, and Moss, the English umpire, of course called “ no-ball.” As Hinds was out of his ground when the ball passed the wicket, he would presumably (according to a ruling of the M.C.C. some time ago) have been run out if the wicket keeper had put down the wicket, although no one knows whether, under such a circum stance, the ball would be counted in the score as a no-ball.
