Fortunately, no valuables had been left in the building, and the only things stolen were articles of clothing. At Hove Police Court on May 27th, William Collins, aged 32, an American, u ship’s fireman, and Geo. Hilton, aged 22, of Birmingham, were each sentenced to three months’ haid labour for the offence. In the first innings of Notts : the first five wickets, three caught and two stumped, were all taken by the Sussex wicket-keeper, Butt (H. It.). For Sussex, C. B. Fry made 97 and 201 not out: in his previous match—v. M.C.C. and Ground, at Lord’s—he had scored 156 and 106 ; therefore, in one week, he made 560 runs. Worcestershire v. Yorkshire, at Worcester, May 11th, 12th, and 13th. —In the second innings of Worcestershire Bowley (F.) made 50 out of 73 in 80 minutes, 100 out of 144 in 155 minutes, and, in all, 151 out of 222 in 240 minutes. Yorkshire v. Derbyshire, at Bradford, May 15th and 16th.—In the second innings of Derbyshiie three wickets twice fell at one total, viz., the 1st, 2nd and 3rd at 60, and tho 6th, 7th and 8th at 91. During the innings C. A. Ollivierre made 48 out of 54 in 30 mins., and, in all, 62 out of 85 in 63 mins., hitting eleven 4’s. Warwickshire v. Crawford made 119 out of 164 in 105 minutes, reaching 50 out of 69 in 40 mins., and 100 out of 135 in 95 mins. Oxford University v. Australians, at Ox­ ford, May 15th, 16th and 17th.—In the second inning! of the Australians R. A. Duff and V. Trumper, whilst in together, at one time made 30 off two consecutive overs, Trumper making 12 off N. R. Udal and Duff 18 (4, 4, 4, 2, 4) off E. G. Martin. Middlesex v. Notts, at Lord’s, May 15th, 16th and 17th.—In the second innings of Notts, Oates (T.) made 67 out of 74 in 32 mins., reaching 50 in 25 mins. Derbyshire v. Lancashire, at Derby, May 18th and 19th.—Storer (W.) was dismissed by the first ball he received in each innings. In his .previous innings—for Derbyshire v. Y’orksh re at Bradford—he had also been disposed of first ball. Leicestershire v. Yorkshire, at Leicester, Hay 18th. Wh and 20th.—For tho former C. Australians, at Lord’s, May 18th, 19th and 20th.—On the second day 520 runs were scored for seven wickets, the Australians making 502 for five and the Gentlemen 18 for two; the play was witnessed by Princes Edward and Albert of Wales from the secietary’s box. In the second innings of the Gentlemen H. Martyn hatted 38 minutes ere making a run. M.C.C. and Ground v. Kent, at Lord’s, May 22nd and 23rd.—In the first innings of M.C.C. and Ground Murrell (H. R.) hit 67 out of 89 in 40 minutes, and in the second E. G. Wynyard made 50 out of 59 in 25 minutes, 66 out of 76 in 37, and, in all, 82 out of 100 in 50. Sussex v. Leicestershire, at Brighton, May 22nd, 23rd and 24th. In the first innings of Sussex C. B. Fry made 50 out of 63 in 70 minutes. Essex v. Derbyshire, at Leyton, May 22nd, 23rd and 24th.—In his innings of 112 for Derbyshire, A. E. Lawton went from 50 to 100 in 20 minutes. In all, he made 112 out of 159 in 85 minutes. Cupitt (J.) made his first appearance for Derbyshire since 1893. In second innings of Derbyshire Needham (E.), when batting, was struck by a ballfrom Buckenham (C. P.) which splintered the bone of the right fore-arm midway between wrist and elbow. Surrey v. Warwickshire, at the Oval, May 22nd, 23rd and 24th.—On the second day as many as 521 runs were made for ten wickets, Surrey obtaining 370 for eight and Warwick­ shire 151 for two. For Surrey, Lord Dal­ meny made 116 out of 203 in 105 minutes, hitting twenty 4’s and eight 2’s and, at one period, making 23 from eight consecutive balls received, and 31 from 14. He and Lees added 75 for the eighth wicket in 30 minutes, making 59 in 20. In the second innings of Warwickshire (585 for seven) all eleven of Surrey bowled. Quaife (W. G.), in his 255 not out, took partin three stands of over 100, adding 125 for third wicket with Kinneir, S. P. (99), 143 for the fourth with Baker, C. S. (45), and 126* for the eighth with Santall, S. (56*). Oxford University v. Gentlemen of Eng­ land, at Oxford, Hay 22nd, 23rd and 24th.— In the second innings of Oxford University N. R. Udal (49*) and R. C. W . Burn (25( added 41 in 12 minutes for the last wicket. Set 442 to win, the Gentlemen made 391. Lancashire v. Worcestershire, at Liverpool, May 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.—In the second innings of Lancashire Kermode (A.) made 64 out of 87 in 65 minutes. Hampshire v. Surrey, at Aldershot, May 25th, 26th, and 27th.—At one time during Surrey’s innings 202 runs were added in 90 minutes, Holland, F. C. (132), and Lees, W. S. (130), scoring 134 together for the eighth wicket in 50 minutes. Lees reached his 100 in an hour, and at one period of his innings made 31 (including three 6’s) off two ofers from A. C. Johnston. In all, he made 130 out of 209 in 100minutes. In the second innings of Hampshire A. J. L. Hill (113) n a le Lis last 2 i runs in six minutes. Kent v. Nottinghamshire, at Gravesend, May 25 h, 26th and 27th.—In the first inn­ ings of Notts three catches were missed from consecutive balls delivered hy Fielder (A.), Gunn (G.) escaping twice, and Iremonger (J.) once. The last four wickets of Notts fell with the score unaltered, Humphreys (E.) t iking four wickets in seven balls. Oxford University v. Worcestershire, at Oxford, May 25th, 26th, and 27th.-In the first innings of Oxford the last seven wickets added but 14 runs. In the second innings of Worce.-tershire, H. K. Foster (35*), when 14, played a hall from R. C W. Burn on to his wicket without a bail being removed. Essex v. Leicestershire, at Leyton, May 25th, 26th, and 27th. —For the latter, C. E. de Trafford made 103 out of 154, scored for the first wicket in 90 minutes. Lancashire v. Australians, at Manchester, May 25th, 261h, and 27th.—In the first inn­ ings of Lanca-hire A. C. MucLaren c'aimed all the first twenty runs obtained by his side, and in the second all the first 23. Middlesex v. Sussex, at Lord’s, May 25th, 26th, and 27th.—In the second innings of Middlesex B. J. T. Bosanquet made 100* out of 142 in 75 minutes, reaching 50 in 38 minutes, 89 in 60 minutes, and 99 (out of 138) in 70 minutes. He obtained his first 60 runs whilst G. W. Beldam got 11, and his first 89 whilst his partner made 17. Middle­ sex won by 324 runs, after declaring with seven wickets in hand. Yorkshire v. Worcestershire, at Leeds, May 29th, 30th, and 31st.—In the second innings of the latter Ringrose (W.), from consecutive balls, got Pearson (F.) caught, delivered a wide, howled ano-ball, and clean- bowled Wheldon (F.) England v. Australia, at Nottingham, May 29th, 30th, and 31st.—In the second innings of England W. W. Armstrong, in order to keep down the run-getting, placed almost all his field on the on-side of the wicket, and bowled almost wide of the leg- stump. Of 204 consecutive deliveries only 25 were scored from, and of the balance of 179, 160 balls were never touched by the batsman. It is a curious coincidence that the two cap'ains in the Test matches of 1905 —the Hon. F. S. Jackson and J. Darling— were born on the same day, November 21st, 1870. M.C.C. and Ground v. Leicestershire, at Lord’s, May 29th, 30th, and 31st.—In the second innings of the latter V. F. S. Craw­ ford made 51 out of 63 in 35 minutes. Cambridge University v. Surrey, at Cambridge, May 29th, 30th, and 31st.— Baker (A.) batted on each of the three days for his score of 125 for Surrey. Worcestershire v.Hampshire, atWorcester, June 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.—In the first innings of Worcestershire G. N. Foster (152) and W. B. Burns (92) added 181 for the seventh wicket in 65 minutes, making the first 75 in 26 minutes. Fostfsr tcored 152 in 120 minutes, reaching 26 in seven minutes, 50 in 60, and 100 in 95. He hit an 8 (four for an overthrow) and twenty nine 4’s. Somerset (205 and 340) beat Gloucester­ shire (399 and 78), at Bath, on June 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, hy 68 runs, although having followed-on. Essex v. Surrey, at Leyton, June 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.—In the second innings of Surrey Hayes (E. G.), when going in, had pro­ ceeded some distance towards the wicket ere he discovered that he had forgottenhis bat. Nottinghamshire v. Sussex, at Nottingham, June 5th, 6th and 7th.—During his innings of 233 C. B. Fry took part in three stands of over 100, making 110 for the first wicket with Yine, J. (29), and adding 101 for the second with Killick, E. H. (38), and 112 for the third with Relf, A. E. (61). M.C.C. and Ground v. Worcestershire, at Lord’s ; Cambridge University v. Gentlemen of England, at Cambridge; and Surrey v. Lancashire, at the Oval: these matches, which should have been played on June 5th, 6th and 7th, were abandoned without a ball being bowled, owing to rain. Oxford University v. Nottinghamshire, at Oxford, June 8th and 9th.—In the second innings of the latter W. H. B. Evans bowled a ball to A. O. Jones which struck the leg- stump without removing a hail and went for four byes. M.C.C. and Ground v. Australians, at Lord’s, June 8th, 9th and 10th__Owing to rain, only one ball (delivered by Hearne, J. T.), was bowled against the Australians, and that dismissed R. A. Duff.
