Cricket 1905

414 CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. Sept. 14, 1905. and many people think that he was worthy of a place in one of the England teams. Nothing seems to~disturb him, and it is not his fault if so many other members of his team try to imitate his example. Kinneir and Fishwick have quite upheld their reputation, and Whittle did very well indeed in the few matches in which he played. Santall and Lilley have been very consistent. The bulk of the bowling has been done by Santall and Hargreave, and while the latter has not kept up the standard which he set himself a few years ago, the former has done wonderfully well. Lilley was, as usual, very capable behind the wicket. Not altogether satisfactory was the season of W o rcestersh ire , although only five matches were lost. The best performance of the team was in the return match against Lancashire, when, having to make 477 to win in their second innings, they put up 376 for the loss of four wickets, the match being drawn in their favour. On the other hand, they were twice beaten by Yorkshire, and once by Surrey and Lancashire. The inability of R. E. Foster to play regu larly handicapped the team very con siderably, for when he couli manage to play he distinguished himself greatly. H. K. Foster quite upheld his great repu tation, and Cuffe, Arnold, Bowley, and Pearson were all useful batsmen. In bowling the county was weak. Neither Wilson nor Arnold was as good as usual, and Cuffe, after beginning well, was disappointing. Keene, who he ids the bowling averages, was only tried in a few matches. THE COUNTY AVERAGES.
