Cricket 1905

366 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. A ug . 24, 1905. for the rest of the day he played beautiful cricket, being not out 139 when stumps were drawn. No fault could be found with his batting, which was quite up to his very best form. McGahey seemed like making a long stay, but he misjudged the pace of a ball from Q.uaife, and was bowled when he had made 31 in fifty minutes. On Tuesday Perrin con tinued to play a great game, and finding no onewho could stay with him he hit boldly. In the end he carried his bat for 173, his hits including a 5 and eighteen 4’s. He was at the wickets for three hours and fifty minutes. Warwickshire lost Kinneir at 27, but Fishwick and Devey made a prolonged stand, which produced 55 runs. After lunch Quaife played a very careful game, and, receiving valuable assist ance from Baker and Santall, he was not out 105 when stumps were drawn, with the total at 290 for six wickets. Yesterday he did not long survive, and when he had increased his score by 5 he was caught at mid-off. He had batted for four hours and a quarter, and hit sixteen 4’s. The innings soon after wards came to an end, Essex having a lead of 54. Essex did well in their second innings, but never had any chance of winning the match, although they were able to declare at half past four. E ssb x . First innings.
