Cricket 1905

326 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OE THE GAME. Aug. 10, 1905 NOTTS v. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. Played at Nottingham on August 3, 4 and 5. Abandoned. There was no play in this match on the first day on account of rain. On Friday the bowlers had much the best of affairs, and the only batsman who greatly distinguished himself during the day was Iremonger, who made 83 for Notts out of 148 in two hours and a half by really fine cricket. His partner ship with G. Gunn produced 69 runs. Dennett bowled well. Gloucestershire had to bat for half an hour before stumps were drawn, making 25 runs and losing Wrathall and Langdon. Rain fell so heavily on Saturday that no play could take place. N otts . Payton, not out.......... Pennington, c and b Dennett ................. Oates, c Board, b Dennett.................... ( f i r s t o f t h e t o u r .) Played on the Manheim Ground on July 22 and 24. M.C.C. won by seven wickets. This match began on a Saturday, and the Phila delphia team batted first on a good wicket, but when four wickets were down for 86 a heavy storm caused the game to be abandoned for the day. On the Monday the home team could do little on a sticky wicket against the bowling of Hunter. The M.C.O. had a lead of 73 on the first innings, thanks chiefly to a finely hit 54 by Hopley, and good scores by Moon and Godsell. The Philadelphians never re covered from their bad commencement and were easily beaten. G entlemen of P hiladelphia .
