CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY v. LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT. Played at Aigburth on July 10, 11, and 12. Liverpool and District won by six wickets. Following their usual custom Cambridge went to Liverpool on Monday, but only six of the teamwhich was victorious against Oxford could play, the other men being included in the M.O.C. team for America. Cambridge won the toss, and scored 208, Keigwin and Young, as in the first innings against Oxford, being the only two men to make fifty. Young made his runs at the rate of a run a minute, but Keigwin, as usual, played a steady game, and was two hours in making his invaluable 62. When stumps were drawn Liverpool had made 141 for eight wickets, B. B. Hancock playing fine cricket for 45. On Tuesday rain fell in Liverpool, at the end of the afternoon, and caused play to be adjourned. On the first innings Cambridge had a lead of 27, and when they went in again they made 249, leaving Liverpool to get 277 to win. Young and Page for Cambridge put on 100 in forty minutes for the second wicket, both hitting finely. When rain stopped play Liver pool had scored 28 runs without loss. Yesterday Liverpool only did moderately well until Morrice and O. E. Wilson came together, when the bowling was mastered, and the two men knocked off the runs by beautiful cricket. HAMPSHIRE v. NORTHAMPTON SHIRE. Played at Northampton on July 10, 11, and 12, Northamptonshire won by 231 runs. On winning the toss A. J. L. Hill, who was acting as captain of the Hampshire team in place of E. M. Sprot, decided to send Northamptonshire in to bat, as much rain had fallen in the night. For some time the home team fared well, and the third wicket did not fall until the total was 91, but aft9r this the bowlers began to carry everything before them, until seven men were out for 125. At this stage of the game it did not seem that Hampshire had done badly by giving their opponents the innings, but Worsley, Horton and Smith all made runs, and in the end the total wras 188. Hampshire had lost a wicket without scoring a run when stumps were drawn at a quarter past six, on account of the bad light, rain having interrupted play for an hour in the course of the afternoon. On Tuesday the Hampshire captain must have regretted that he yielded to temptation and put his opponents in first, for his county was quite outplayed. Against the bowling of Thompson, who took 7 wickets in 20 overs for 27 runs, Hampshire failed, W. V. Jephsou alone making a fairly good score. Northampton shire had a lead of 104, and as in the second innings they scored 284 for 9 wickets before stumps were drawn, they began the third day of the match with a lead of 388. C. J. T. Pool played a fine game for three hours and made 110, while W. II. Kingston showed good form for his 56. Yesterday Hampshire never looked like winning. N orthamptonshire . First innings.
