J u n e 8, 19(56. CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME!. 183 and Cranfield played with pluck. In the follow-on Braund again played fine cricket and was not out 54 when rain put an end to play for the day; the Somersetshire score was then 120 for five wickets, so that the county still required 74 runs to save the innings defeat. Their chances of victory seemed ex ceedingly small, but on Saturday Braund kept steadily on his way, while Woods played an innings which reminded one of his old days. Poyntz was also in great form; Braund was the last man out with 130 to his credit, an innings which had taken him five hours to compile. His partnership with Poyntz for twenty minutes produced 87 runs, of which Poyntz claimed 60. Gloucestershire had to make 147 to win with plenty of time before them, biit Lewis bowled with great effect, and the innings ended for 78. G loucestershire . First innings. Second innings. R. T.
