N ew South Wales w on by seven -wickets. Clement H ill again won tlie toss, and his side gave a fairly good account of itself on the first day, although neither the captain nor D arling distinguished him self. The best innings was played by Gehrs, and until Travers and Pellew came together for the ninth w icket, and hit the bow ling all over the field, the score did not seem likely to be at all large. Travers hit no few er than twelve 4’bin his innings o f 58, while in making his 68 Pellew hit nine 4’ s. Before stumps were drawn D uff and Trumper scored 80 runs for N .S .W ., but the latter was dismissed with the last ball of the day for 28 out of 89. Duff was not out 60. On the Saturday Duff increased his total to 80, his innings in cluding eleven 4’s. H ow ell hit extrem ely hard, and made the same number of 4 ’s in an innings of 62, while W addy played fine cricket. South Australia had to go in against a balance of 18, and did so badly against the bow ling o f Cotter, who took all the six wickets which fell, that they only made 106 runs. T hey were thus practically out of the running when the game was resumed on the M onday, but Pellew, who was not out 24 on the Saturday evening, made a determ ined resistance to the bow ling, and put a better appearance on the game. In the end N ew South W ales had to make 168 to w in, and thanks chiefly to a brilliant 76 by Trum per, who hit thirteen 4’ s, and a very useful 43 not out b y W ad d y, the runs were obtained w ith some ease.
