Played at Worcester on August 1, 2 and 3. Drawn. The Worcestershire team did exceedingly well on the tirst day, for they scored 363 for the loss of six wickets. Bawley kept in for four hours, and played the bowling with ease; he and H. K. Foster, who played splendid cricket for 93. put on 181 for the third wicket. The last four wickets added 38 runs on Tuesday, and then Warwickshire steadily set them selves out to make victory impossible for their opponents. Glover and Kinneir put on 160 for the second wicket in about an hour and three-quarterB. Quaife played a steady game, and was not out 62 when stumps were drawn with the total at 284 for five wickets. Yesterday there never seemed much chance that the match would be finished. Santall played a fiue inning*, and Whittle made some good drives. Warwickshire had a small lead, and got rid of their opponents pretty easily in the second innings. W o rc e ste r sh ir e . Hrct inning*. TH E C AN T E R B U R Y W E E K . KENT y. ESSEX. Played on the St. Lawrence Ground on August 1, 2 and 3. Kent won by 220 runs. So many good players were at the service of the Kent committee for this match that it was decided to leave out Alec Hearne, a proceeding which seems a little like a mistake. Essex were in much the same position with regard to Buckenham, who, however, in the absence of Tremlin was wired for. Kent were batting nearly the whole of the first day, but before stumps were drawn Carpenter and Fane put up 66 for Essex without being separated. Dillon and Humphreys put up 74 for the first wicket in a little over three-quarters of an hour, and for the fourth, with Day, Mason made 13/s in a little more than an hour and a half. Day played a most attractive innings, among his hits being sixteen 4’s. Another long partnerahip, producing 107 runs in an hour, ensued between Mason and Rlaker, loth of whom were eventually run out. Mason made his third hundred in successive innings by excellent cricket; he was baiting for about three hours. The tail did not do much. On Tuesday, Fane was prompty dismissed, but McGahey helped Carpenter to increase the score by 69, and to bring the total to 122, when he and Carpenter as well as k reeman were all deposed of. Afterwards Turner and A. P. Luc.,a put on 67 for the sixth wicket by very good cricket indeed, and as Douglas and Reeves made useful scores, the total was only 60 behind that of Kent. Before stumps were drawn Kent lost four wickets for 86, Day be>ng not out 31. Yesterday Blaker and Day put on 9i runs in an hour, having made 19 while together on the previous evening. After this things did not go well for Kent, who, nevertheless, were able to give Essex the task of makirg 314 in three hours and three quarters, a task which proved altogether too great for them.
