The only men in the Liverpool side who were able to cope with the bowling were C. S. Hannay andA. F. Spooner, ayounger brother of R. H. Spooner, the Lancashire cricketer. These two men pus up 53 for the first wicket, Spooner batting in excellent form all through his innings. On Friday the local team had to follow on. The list of the names of men who have succeeded in making two separate hundreds in a first-class match is becoming quite long, but as three men have joined it this year who had never accomplished the feat before, we give a complete list. It will be noticed that Dr. Grace, R. E. Foster and C. B. Fry have performed the feat three times, ani that two of Foster’s double hundreds were made in the same season. Fry holds the record of being the only cricketer to score a hundred in one innings and two hundred in the other, although A. E. Stoddart only just missed this distinction. 18S8 W. G. Grace 1887 W. G.
