Cricket 1904
276 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OP THE GAME, J u ly 21, 1904. South, at Nottingham, and in 1877 when he made 110 for Gloucestershire and Yorkshire against England, at Lord’s. Jessop has again played a huge and meritorious innings, whilst Tancred’8 score of 250 is by far the largest ever hit by a South African in Great Britain. Ollivierre—but to comment on each noteworthy batting performance would far exceed the space at command. Amid the host of huge scores it is pleasant to observe the bowling success with which Nice met against Yorkshire, and which sent him home a forty- four-pounds happier man. The lot of a cricket statistician is never a very enviable one, and during the last few days it has been far more laborious than usual. The many huge scores have doubtless driven the ‘ ‘ figure merchants ’ ’ almost to distraction, but if they apply a seven-pound piece of ice to their scalp every quarter of an they hour will find it very com forting, soothing and beneficial.
