THE MATCH AGAINST HAMPSHIRE. ( e l e v e n t h of i h e t o u r .) Played at Alton on July 7 and 8. The South Africans won by an innings and 19 runs. The experiment of playing a first-class match on the pretty ground at Alton was attended with success, and the game attracted a good crowd. The wicket was excellent, the outflelding rough, and the bound aries short. During the first day 467 runs were scored, the South Africans making 380 and di missing seven Hampshire men for 87, so that the result of the match seemed a foregone conclusion. Tancred played a wonderfully good innings; his *core stood at 98 at lunch time, but be was bowled by Hesketh-Prichard before he had reached his hundred. Good cricktt was played by 8halders, Schwarz and several others of the team, Hathorn alone playing a single-figure innings. When Unmpshire went in Kotze was in great form and took five of the wickets which fell. On Fridav Bowell and Stone made a great effort to save the follow-on, but were not successful in their object. When Hampshire went in again 8prot and Llewellyn made a fine stand for the fifth wicket, putting on 102 runs in three-quarters of an hour by most attractive cricket. The rest of the team failed and the South Africans had the easiest of victories. S outh A fricans . THE HAVERFORD COLLEGE TEAM. THE MARLBOROUGH COLLEGE MATCH. ( s ix t h o f t h e t o u r .)
