246 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. J uly 7, 1904 YORKSHIRE v. WARWICKSHIRE. Played at Edgbaston on June 30 and July 1 and 2. Yorkshire won by an innings and 4 runs. The Warwickshre men were batting the whole of the first day of this match, and at one time it looked as if Yorkshire would have a much more difficult task than ultimately fell to their lot. But although the tot*l was 296 for four wickets, Rhodes and Haigh so demoralised the tail that the last six wickets fell for 11 runs. Fishwick played a very fine game for two hours and ten minutes, while Glover was at the wicket for three hours and a quarter for his splendid innings of 121. Quaife made 67 in two hours and a quarter—a most useful innings. On Friday York shire scored 356 for eight wickets, and were thus 49 runs on. Two of the three famous Yorkshire bowlers, .Hirst and Haigh, had much to do with the success of their county, for they scored 177 runs between them, Haigh being not out 84 when stumps were drawn. On Stturd*y Haigh increased his score to 188, his entire innings lasting for three hours and three- quarters ; his hits included twenty-four 4*s. He has only made a hundred once before for Yorkshire, viz., 169 agaiost Notts in 1901. Warwickshire had to make 112 before they drew level, but despite inter ruptions caused by rain. Yorkshire had plenty of time to win, for the Warwickshire innings only lasted for two hours. Rhodes was in splendid form with the ball. W arw ickshire . First innings. Second innings. T. S.
