J u n e 30, 1904. CRICKET. A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 231 ETON t . WINCHESTER. Played at Winchester on June 24 and 25. Winchester won by eight wickets. The Etonian* had the good fortune to bat first, \ ut although Chinnerv, Farmer and Boles played good cricket, seven wickets were down for 148 runs before lunch. Afterwards, *he Eton captain, G. C. Camp bell, bit so well that the total was reasonably large when the innings came to an end. When stumps were drawn Winchesterhadmade 176 for six wicVeta. so that it was anybody’s game. The best and h ghest innings of the day wasplayed by Gordon. On Satur day, Teesdale, who was not out 24 overnight, played a great game, and although the tail gave him very little aasistance. he waa able to make enough runs to give his side a small lead on the first innings When Eton went in again Ch’nnpry was bowled first ball. Three wickets were down for 85 and fix for £9, but J. J. Aator played a brilliant game and saved his side from disaster. Winchester required 130 runs to win, and tbe*e were made in an hour and a half, Wright, the Winchester captain, playing a beautiful not out innings of 53, while Gordon again distinguished himself.
