The South African team won by an innings and 95 runs. The South Africans seem to be finding their feet rapidly, and although neither of theUniversityteams can be considered as very formidable, the visitors did so well against both of them as to raise £reat hopes lor their future. On the first day the University was quite outplayed, the South Africans making 288 for six wickets against a total of 154. Oxford lost their first four wickets for 50 runs, and never recovered from this unsatisfactory beginning. The chief cause for their failure was the excellent bowling of Sinclair, who took eight wickets for 69. Sinclair also played a fine innings of 65, which was put together at the rate of a run a minute. Hathorn andMitchell also batted exceedingly well, putting on 87 in an hour during their partnership for the third wicket. W . H. B. Evans, the Oxford captain, was not playing, and during his absence thebowling wasnotwellmanaged, the first change not being made until the total was 70 for one ticket, although Hathorn and Sinclair were making runs rapidly. Burn was kept on until the total was 120, although his only wicket was taken in the first few mioutes after the innings began. On Friday White and Wallach added 75 runs in a little over three-quarters of an hour, and when the innings came to an end the visitors had a lead of 264. In the second innings of Oxford Awdrey made a great effort to save his side, and kept up his wicket for about an hour and three-quarters, during which he scored69, his hits including eleven 4’s.
